Question 1. In reference to the request, our manufacturer would like to know if Polyurethane, is acceptable instead of expanded polystyrene or polypropylene?

Answer 1. No, Polystyrene is not acceptable. The Polyurethane foam (PUR) boxes that have been used in the past have the PUR expanded between inner and outer corrugated boxes. The experience that the USGS has with PUR/cardboard boxes shows that they do not stand up to the heavy abuse they will receive in the field, hand loading in and out of aircraft or sling loading under a helicopter for example. Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) boxes are more robust, resilient, have some cushioning capability and can take more abuse than the PUR/ cardboard boxes.

Question 2. Also, the delivery date is 2-28- 2023, may they be delivered sooner?

Answer 2. Yes, product can be received by USGS no earlier than 1 August 2022 and no later than 28 February 2023.

Question 3. Expanded Polypropylene is not something we focus on. Many times, we have our customers use Expanded Polyethylene foam. Do you know why they are looking for Polypropylene and if they could use Polyethylene instead?

Answer 3. Expanded Polypropylene or Expanded Polyethylene white foam is acceptable.
