About this file
This document is an amendment to Solicitation Number 140G0124Q0143 issued by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Office of Acquisitions and Grants. The amendment provides answers to vendor questions and revises the proposal due date to 7:00 PM ET on Friday, September 13, 2024.
The solicitation seeks a contractor to create a secondary education curriculum package focusing on critical minerals. The purpose is to develop several lessons that explain the basics of critical minerals to middle and high school students, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of critical minerals and providing an understanding of the science, technology, career opportunities, and global impact. The curriculum may include both teacher-facing and student-facing materials such as lesson plans, slides, and worksheets. The contract is a firm fixed-price purchase order with a period of performance from 10/01/2024 to 02/07/2025. The acquisition is set-aside for small businesses under NAICS code 541990.

Q1: Does the USGS have a preference for the size of this work?
A1: You may propose a basic plan, with pricing and then additional features for selection. See scope statement: The teacher can lead the investigation into the cell phone minerals, but, after the template for investigation is established, students can then divide into specialist teams to explore other objects and the critical minerals that make them up. An alternative strategy could be to have student teams focus on one critical mineral and develop a presentation for their classmates (PowerPoint, video, play, poster, web page, etc.) They could also be asked to develop a fact sheet or web page for their peers (or for their parents or younger students) including their sources and links to those sources. Those products could also be sent to USGS for possible posting or use in presentations. Student teams would be asked to find information from reliable sources on their mineral: Its chemistry, properties, source, extraction, processing, uses, rarity, careers involved, etc. Materials kits could also be a part of the curriculum, so that students can study the properties of minerals and learn how to identify them.
Q2: Do you envision a module to be a single lesson involving the study of critical minerals or a series of lessons?
A2: The purpose is to create several lessons that explain the basics of critical minerals to students.
Q3: Are you looking for teacher-facing content only (lesson plans, slides) or are you also looking for student-facing materials such as worksheets?
A3: Yes, we are seeking both teacher-facing and student facing materials.
