The USGS St Petersburg Science Center requires a renovation of the two-room Sedimentology

Laboratory, Getting Building, 600 4th Street South, St Petersburg, Florida. This purchase request is for laboratory cabinetry, worktops, modular tables, and two fume hoods for the Getting Building sedimentology lab space to be designed, quoted, shipped and installed at the facility listed above and based on the following description and accompanying diagrams.

During the period of solicitation, vendors will be able to contact Marci Marot, mmarot@usgs.gov, office phone 727-502-8057, to request a site visit to view the space if they so wish.

Vendor will coordinate with on-site building manager and appropriate USGS staff on all installation, cabinetry material and casework material delivery, plumbing and electrical requirements as needed. No

IT system access is required, therefore FISMA and Section 508 do not apply.

Facility Information:

The laboratory is comprised of two rooms, the larger room is 24 feet long by 43 feet wide (approx.

1032sq ft) with windows along the interior walls. The smaller room is approximately 40 feet long by 10 feet wide (approx. 400sq ft) with windows along the entire outer wall and interior windows along a partial inner wall. (see diagrams)

The following features are required (see corresponding number on drawing):

1) Chemical fume hoods (quantity 2): One (1) 8-foot chemical fume hood and one (1) 6-foot chemical fume hood, both with vented flammable and vented corrosive storage cabinet underneath. Hoods must be designed to hold a face velocity of 60-120 linear feet per minute and meet all ASHRAE 110-95 Standards with documentation available. The left sides must have an access port to allow for an exterior instrument hose to vent into the main chamber of the fume hood. The hoods must contain a standard light fixture inside of hood, with switch on the outer hood area, a chemically resistant interior to withstand corrosives (HCL and Nitric), suitable for constant air flow volume, and have a chain driven sash mechanism, self-lowering to the 18” safety position, with a full view sash. Power requirements to operate with standard US 120V power, and with 2 power (120V) receptacles located on the outer hood area. The hoods and outer roof components (motor, blower, cage and assembly) must be included, the piping from hood to roof above will be provided by the customer and will be made of PVC. The corrosive storage cabinets beneath must have no exposed metal components interior. To protect all metal areas from corrosive vapors, the cabinets must contain a removable 1” minimum spill lip, and shelf supports molded into the cabinet liner to prevent any exposed metal. The doors shall be designated with “ACID”. The cabinets must be vented to the main hood. The flammable sides must be insulated with 2-inch thick insulation and meet the requirements of OSHA Standard

1910-106(d)(3) and NFPA Code #30 and #45 (1996) for storage of flammable and combustible liquids. The doors shall be marked with “FLAMMABLE-KEEP FIRE AWAY”, have hinged continuous door panels with locking mechanism and have a braided fiberglass gasket. This flammable sides must also vent to the main hood chamber.

2) Two (2) fixed base cabinet sections in Large Sed lab: Two (2) bench sections in the Large Sed lab on either side of the fume hood. Bench section to the right of the fume hood should be 30-mailto:mmarot@usgs.gov inches wide by 216 inches long, standing height 36 inches, one 36-inch section with 4-drawer cabinet, and four 36-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet, one

36-inch 2-door sink cabinet. Bench section to the left of the fume hood should be 30-inches wide by 96 inches long, standing height 36 inches, two 30-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a

2-door adjustable shelf cabinet, one 36-inch 2-door sink cabinet. Black epoxy resin work surface above all base cabinets. Base cabinets must have kickplates at the bottom. Black epoxy resin sinks (minimum 28 inches long, 17inches wide, and 12 inches deep for each basin) with individual faucets and one sprayer unit on each basin. Sinks need to be located near the center of each bench section, depending on location of the existing plumbing. Large drying racks are needed for each sink area, with a variety of 3, 4, and 6-inch pegs to accommodate large and small beakers (30mL-1000mL).

3) Three (3) fixed base cabinet sections in Small Sed lab: One (1) bench sections in the Small Sed lab on the exterior building wall to the right of the fume hood. Bench section should be 30-inches wide by 204-inches long, standing height 36 inches, three 36-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet, one 36-inch 2-door sink cabinet, and two 30-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet. Black epoxy resin sink

(minimum 28 inches long, 17 inches wide, and 12 inches deep for each basin) with faucet and sprayer unit. Sink needs to be located near the center of the bench section, depending on location of the existing plumbing. One 24-inch wide drying rack above the sink area, with a variety of 3, 4, and 6-inch pegs to accommodate large and small beakers (30mL-1000mL). One

(1) bench section on the interior wall to the right of the entrance door. Bench section should be

30-inches wide by 174-inches long, standing height 36 inches, four 36-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet, and one 30-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet. One (1) bench section on the interior wall to the left of the exterior window. Bench section should be 36-inches wide by 144-inches long, standing height 36 inches, two 30-inch knee space opening with a pencil drawer, three 24-inch sections with 1-drawer over top a 2-door adjustable shelf cabinet, the cabinets should be on either end and in the center of the bench section. Black epoxy resin work surface above all base cabinets. Base cabinets must have kickplates at the bottom.

4) Hanging wall cabinets (quantity 11): Five (5) 36-inch high, 30-inch wide steel wall-mounted cabinets. Four (4) 36-inch high, 36-inch wide steel wall-mounted cabinets. Two (2) 24-inch high, 30-inch wide steel wall-mounted cabinets. Each unit will have hinged framed glass double doors and adjustable shelving inside. Cabinet depth can be 14-18 inches deep. Glass must be clear tempered glass, minimum 3 mm thickness.

5) Corner worktop with support legs (quantity 1): One (1) black epoxy resin angled corner work surface, 1-inch thick, 30-inch wide on both ends (from wall to edge, see diagram). Steel table legs with leveling bolts and undercounter brackets will support the worktop.

6) Self-standing bench (quantity 12): 72-inch long by 30-inch wide four leg steel tables with 84-inch high (minimum) frame to support steel shelving above the work surface, 36-inch standing height at worktop, table legs must have leveling feet. Worktops must be 1-inch thick black epoxy resin. Must have the option to add suspended cabinets from the table frame below the worktop. Each shelving frame must be wired to accept one 120V, 20A circuit with NEMA L5-20P locking plugs, at least 3 duplex electrical receptables and one data port on shelving frame.

Hardware to fasten the tables side-to-side and back-to-back must be included.

7) Tall glass door steel cabinets (quantity 4): Two (2) 84-inch high, 48-inch wide steel cabinet, with full-heightglass double doors, adjustable shelving inside. Two (2) 84-inch high,36-inch wide steel cabinet, with full-height glass doors, adjustable shelving inside. Both must have kickplates at the bottom. Cabinet depth can be 22-24 inches deep. Glass must be clear tempered glass complying with ASTM C 1048, Kind FT, Condition A, Type I, Class I, Quality-Q3, minimum 5 mm thickness.

8) Work tables (quantity 4): Two (2) 60-inch long by 30-inch wide four leg steel tables, 36-inch standing height. Two (2) 48-inch long by 30-inch wide four leg steel tables, 36-inch standing height. Worktops must be 1-inch thick black epoxy resin with 1-inch overhang from the steel frame. Must have the option to add suspended cabinets from the table frame below the worktop. Hardware to fasten the tables side-to-side and back-to-back must be included.

9) Mobile workbench on castors (quantity 1): 48-inch long with adjustable height cantilevered work tops (1-inch thick black epoxy resin), load capacity 600 pounds total (minimum). Must have the option to add suspended cabinets from the table frame below the worktop. Mobile cart castors will be rated for the same weight as the cart/worktop and have a locking mechanism on the castor wheels, locking both rotation and swivel.

10) Mobile cabinets on castors (quantity 22): 30-inch high, 30-inch wide, and 22-inch (minimum) deep, steel storage cabinets on castors. Eight (8) units with a 3-drawer configuration, and fourteen (14) units with a 2-door cabinet with adjustable shelving. All mobile cabinets must haven a 1-inch thick black epoxy resin worktop. Castor wheels must have a locking mechanism and have the same load rating as the cabinet and worktop.

Casework materials: painted galvanized sheet steel, commercial grade to ASTM 653, designation Z275, 18 Ga minimum for flat sections, 20 Ga minimum for drawer and door backs, back panels, shelves, dividers and pull out shelves and 16 Ga minimum for rails and legs. Product standard to comply with

SEFA 8 recommended practices for laboratory furniture casework. Cabinets are to have doors, drawer tracks and back panels that can be replaced without specialized tools. Cabinet doors are to have reinforced hinges that prevent sagging, with nylon roller friction catches and rubber bumpers. Drawers shall have built-in stops to prevent complete removal of drawer, and drawer pulls in center location of drawer face. Wall cabinets shall have vertically mounted door pulls on the lower edge of the steel door frame. Metal finish shall be chemically resistant, high quality lab grade finish.

All work surfaces to be black epoxy resin, minimum 1-inch thickness, front and end overhang of 1 inch, epoxy resin curbs and splashes, with beveled edges on exposed edges and corners.

Suspended cabinets to be supported using hook shaped rails attached near the front and rear of the cabinet, and possible to remove and relocate to another position. Access panels shall snap into place and not rely on adhesives. Panels can be removed without removing suspended cabinets. Upper storage shelves shall be removable and adjustable without specialized tools.

Shipping and delivery:

Products shall be packaged adequately to prevent damage to surfaces during shipping, delivery and installation. Any component with visible damage will be rejected at delivery. Replacement of any components damaged during shipment or installation are the responsibility of the vendor. Installer shall unpack components and be responsible for removing any packaging waste or refuse from the work site, leaving the area clean of debris. Trash containers shall be provided by the customer as requested by the installers. It is the responsibility of the installer to transfer all casework and installation components from the on-site receiving location to the workspace which is on the second floor of a two-story building.

Vendor is to provide date of casework arrival to customer for adequate scheduling of removal and flooring replacement. Estimated time of delivery from order is to be provided in bid.

Installation:

Requirements for room preparations must be stated clearly in writing, and outline of whether vendor will provide or whether customer will provide these aspects stated on bid.

Assembly and installation of all lab components shall be done by the vendor. Indicate in writing if installation is to be performed (or potentially be performed) by a third-party installer. If a third-party installer is used, please provide the name, address and outline of qualifications of the installer.

Installation shall include the following:

Casework shall be set with components plumb, straight and square, securely anchored to the building structure with no distortion, concealed shims shall be used as required, cabinets in continuous runs shall be fastened together with joints flush, wall casework shall be secured to solid material, top edge surfaces shall match, joints flush and gaps not to exceed 1/8 inch. Filler panels, where required, will be set flush with the casework.

Work surfaces are to be provided in lengths according to drawings, with ends matching and sealed with corrosion resistant sealant, tops are to be anchored to base cabinets in a single true plane and joined with no raised edges, any surface scratches are to be removed and the surface cleaned after installation.

All finishing hardware will be installed and verified to be in good working order.

The fume hood installation will include delivery, setup and installation, vent and electrical connections verified, and hood flow tested and verified to customer’s requirements.

A written warranty shall be provided for work and materials that provides for replacement for discoloration, cracking, warping, welding or structural failures, peeling of finishes, etc.

Options for color choices, door handles and pulls, keying options of cabinets, and shelf assemblies are to be provided in writing with the bid.
