HYDROLOGIC INSTRUMENTATION FACILITY

SPECIFICATION

FOR

POLYETHYLENE TUBING AND PACKAGING

1. SCOPE

1.1 This specification contains the requirements for the manufacture of the polyethylene tubing used by the U.S. Geological Survey in conjunction with an orifice and conoflow sight feed assembly and a pressure sensor to receive data of changing water levels.

2. SPECIFICATIONS

. 2.1 Polyethylene tubing specifications:

Tubing, polyethylene, black, 3/8 [9.53] O.D. X 1/8 [3.18] I.D.

Tolerances are +/- .005 [0.13].

Dimensions are in inches unless otherwise noted and dimensions in [ ] are millimeters.

Tubing may be ordered as continuous rolls in lengths of:

500 feet [152.4 meters] 1000 feet [304.8 meters]

2.2 Packaging requirements:

Tubing is to be coiled inside box whereby it can be pulled from the center on the box freely, without any binding or kinking.

USGS supplied bar code label is to be placed on the top, outside panel of each box.

2.3 Box specifications:

Boxes are to be supplied by USGS/HIF.

Boxes are to be plastic corrugated material with USGS logo printed in black on two (2) opposite side panels, and a hand hold cut out in the remaining two (2) side panels. Die plate for logo is government furnished property.

Box sizes required:

500 ft. tube = 16 X 16 X 11 [406 X 406 X 279] 1000 ft. tube = 18 X 18 X 13 [457 X 457 X 330]
