Alligator River NWR Amphibious Excavator Specifications

Description of Need: The Alligator River NWR (NC-ALR) desires to purchase a new amphibious mini excavator with a mulching head attachment and auxiliary power pack. The soils of eastern NC are naturally very poorly drained with the most severe of heavy equipment limitations. Rising sea levels are compounding these issues and are creating even greater challenges for heavy equipment access and trafficability. As such, there are increasingly large areas that are inoperable for even our current specialized rubber tracked LGP (low ground pressure) equipment. Procuring an amphibious excavator with masticating capabilities will enable refuge staff to access these very wet and inoperable areas to cut fuel breaks for protecting life, property, and natural resources from the threat of wildfires. Inherent to that is the ability to utilize those fire breaks to support both prescribed and wildland fire operations.

This is not a standard turn-key piece of equipment available from the manufacturer or dealer as specified below. The pontoon system, the mulcher head, and the power pack would be after-purchase third-party add-ons requiring fabrication, mounting, calibration, etc.

However, there are multiple current vendors who specialize in building these machines turn-key.

General Specifications: - Standard Reach Mini Excavator (69.5-HP), that platform.

- Mounted on amphibious hydraulic undercarriage capable of supporting machine for amphibious operations (non-telescoping pontoons / 4.5’ H x 4’ W x 22’ L x 12’ OAW)

- Long stick (2360-mm)

- Hydraulic Thumb

- 36” Heavy Duty Bucket

- Hydraulic Mulching Head Attachment- masticating cutter w/ 32-36” working-width

- 74-HP power pack

Other Items: - Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) & delivery

- Min. 4-hours of machine orientation to include operational/service & safe operating techniques

- 2-paper copies of the Owners/Operating Manual and 1 digital copy of the Parts Manual

- Remote monitoring and asset management system – 5-year subscription

- Dealer procured and installed 2.5-lb ABC fire extinguisher - mounted for emergency access

- Equipment protection plan – 3-yr/2000-hr (powertrain)

- Dealer procured and installed “Slow Moving” emblem with removable mounting system

- Dealer installation of work tools and compatibility check
