B09 Amendment 0002 – Questions and Answers

Question 1 - Why are all of the top chords being replaced? Upon inspection, these were not rotten.

Answer: There is concern that there is damage to the top chord based upon visual evidence.

The bid is set up such that after the plywood is removed that it will be inspected to verify damage. If it is determined by a structural engineer that there is no damage the top chords will not need to be replaced. If a structural engineer determines that the top chords are damaged then the top chords will be replaced as directed by the structural engineer. The structural engineer is also required to determine if structural plywood is required, where it is located, and how it is fastened.

Question 2 - Why is a structural engineer required? If there may be a need for framing to be replaced, we will sister the framing if needed.

Answer: See response above.

Question 3 - Why is marine grade plywood required? Marine grade plywood is 5X more expensive than regular plywood. We are using ice and water on all of the plywood. Standard plywood should suffice.

Answer: Marine grade plywood is not required.

Question 4 - Why is the plywood required 5/8’’ – the standard plywood is ½ inch

Answer: Structural span tables require 5/8” plywood.

Question 5 - Why are hurricane ties being requested? This seems unnecessary.

Answer: To address seismic concerns the trusses must be attached to the top plate of the exterior walls while sheathing is removed.

Question 6 - Why are we using H clips on the plywood. The plywood will be properly staggered and the requirement for H clips is not necessary.

Answer: To address seismic requirements.
