About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service solicitation (140FC225Q0030) for a prefabricated steel bridge with a timber deck to be installed at the Eastern Massachusetts National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Sudbury, MA. The Q&A clarifies key details about the bridge procurement, including that the bridge is expected to arrive in the largest legally transportable width with modular frame and decking to be constructed onsite, and that the government will not require installation or a foundation.

The Q&A document also addresses several specific vendor inquiries, notably that: welding certification will be managed through AWS and provided with the submittal, no ASIC certification for Intermediate Bridges is required, and the original proposed delivery date of July 1, 2025, was deemed unrealistic, prompting vendors to provide their earliest possible delivery date in their bids. Vendors are also informed that while a previous bridge installation drawing exists, the government does not have a produced drawing for this specific specification, and the contractor will be responsible for providing the necessary technical drawings.

Questions and Answers

Do you expect the bridge to arrive as a complete unit or as a field assembled kit? The intent is to receive the bridge in the largest legally transportable width, to reduce the amount of on-site assembly. But fully expect the bridge to be frame and decking to be modular and constructed onsite.

Is it expect the fabricator be ASIC certified for Intermediate Bridges? No, the welding certification would be managed through AWS and provided as part of the submittal.

Is the delivery date accurate? July 1, 2025 is only a few weeks from today. That date is unrealistic - please provide the earliest date for delivery in your bid.

Does the government require installation? - No

Does the government require a foundation? - No

Can the government please provide us with the drawings of the bridge? - Not that we own. I have a drawing from previous bridge installation as the contractor provided, but we do not have a produced drawing for this specification. The contractor would be responsible for providing drawings.
