About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document (Amendment 0001) for a pump rehabilitation project at Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge. The document addresses four key questions about an inlet pump engine rehabilitation project.

The Q&A reveals that the existing engine, which dates to 2008, has no rebuild records in its maintenance documentation. The document includes technical drawings showing pump head specifications and elevation details, with measurements including a natural ground elevation of 194.1' and bottom of sump elevation of 178.0'. The decision to rebuild rather than replace the engine was based on maintaining current platform clearances, as newer models have larger footprints. The engine was reportedly running without issues during the design phase, and service provider Bill Miller from MWI Pumps recommended a rebuild service and provided a quote for consideration.

B09 AMEND 0001- AL-EUFAULA NWR-INLET PUMP REHAB DQ126 140FC125Q0003

1. Has the engine previously been rebuilt? If yes, who rebuilt it?

Answer: No, no rebuilt records in the maintenance document binder provided by FWS.

The tag on the engine shows the year 2008, the engine might have been replaced in 2008.

2. How far does the pump head go into the water?

Answer: Could not identify when on site, the pump head was submerged in the water.

The distance can be verified as below as built drawings snapshot.

3. Where did the John Deere suggested parts list come from?

Answer: From the manufacturer’s rebuild/maintenance suggestion.

Has a dealer already checked the engine out?

Answer: No If yes, was there an inspection or recommendations report?

Answer: NA Can we have a copy?

Answer: NA

4. Is the reason for rebuilding the engine versus replacing the engine to stay away from having an engine without emissions control (Blue Def)? If yes, as long as the old engine is turned in, John Deere can supply a new like engine without the emissions controls. This was verified through Bill Miller at MWI Pumps.

Answer: The engine was in running condition without any issues during the design phase. New models tend to have a larger footprint compared to the existing unit. To maintain the current clearances and reuse the existing platform structure, we opted not to pursue a replacement. The service provider, Bill Miller, recommended a rebuild service for the engine, and a quote for the rebuild service was provided for consideration.
