System on a Concrete Bulkhead At Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge

Townsend, Georgia June 26, 2019

1.1 DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

*See attached plans for wall locations

Base Project:

1. Wall #6 measuring 31’ will receive a new double whaler MC6 x 15.3 galvanized, the double whaler, assembled utilizing an anchoring attachment system from the base plates and/or ogee washers on the whalers extending to “Chance” brand or equivalent helical anchors.

2. The double whaler will be installed 6” below the piling cap and anchored to the wall with “Chance”

SS125 Helical Anchors or equivalent. The lead section will have a single helix 14” diameter. Each tieback should be installed with a 7’ and a 5’ plain extension. The whale will be fastened with a threaded adapter utilizing 1” galvanized threaded rod. All materials shall be constructed of stainless steel or hot dipped galvanized metal. Back fill material will consist of the removed material, if suitable. If the on-site backfill material is not suitable, then the contractor shall supply the material.

3. A total of 6 tiebacks along the 31’ wall will be required.

4. A hole will need to be bored through the concrete to allow the plain extension to pass. The lead helical section can be put in place by a small trench perpendicular to the wall.

5. The tasks performed will be in a confined working environment. If fencing or other infrastructure is removed to complete the tasks, all must be replaced or repaired. In addition, the contractor is responsible for determining if underground utilities or obstructions could interfere with helical anchor installation. If utilities are compromised, repairs are the responsibility of the contractor.

Additive Alternative A

1. Two existing 30’ timber poles will be pulled/removed. Four, new 12” butt 40’ cca poles will be driven to finish elevation of 12.20 or to the top of the existing concrete piling cap. These piling will serve as guide piling for the floating dock.

2. Supply and install an aluminum “L” shaped floating dock measuring 5’ wide x 29’x 14’. Dock should be designed to attach to existing concrete piling measuring 1’6”x1’6” on three points on the 29’ side.
