Solicitation # 140F0322Q0072 Amendment #2
CO Response to RFI
Question 1: Regarding pay schedule, how often is the contractor paid, such as every two weeks or one payment at the completion of the project?
Answer: One payment upon completion of project, and the technical point of contact confirms the project is complete.
Question 2: With the time allotted for the job, would it be acceptable to use excavator, or does it matter what I use as long as the job is completed on time? As far as I know all tracked vehicles are low ground pressure.
Answer: Tracked equipment, and especially bulldozers, can have an LGP (low ground-pressure) rating from the manufacturer. Narrow-tracked dozers ideal on more rocky or sandy topography have significant difficulty standing up in this terrain and end up getting stuck a lot. I’m not sure what the official industry standard is for pounds/square inch (psi) on an LGP machine. Our LGP dozers typically run in the 3-5 psi range. However, excavators seem to have a more standardized track width (and thus ground-pressure) with less variability than do bulldozers. As such, I would think that an excavator should do fine.
Regardless of the machine used, you need to have another machine on site for recovery/towing if/when you get stuck. Our operators get stuck from time to time even with LGP machines and years of experience in this terrain. As far as the cutter head goes, it needs to be a rotary Fecon-style head (or equivalent) capable of mulching. A regular bush-hog-style cutter would be insufficient for the vegetation on site.
Question 3: Is it possible to camp or stay on or near the worksite?
Answer: Camping on the refuge is prohibited so staying on-site is not an option. The closest camping option would be the Riverside Campground which is approximately 11-miles from the project site.
