Attachment 3 Question and Answers (25 July 2022)

1. Is it permissible to keep a non-motorized water craft(jon boat or similar) on the job site to help work across deeper water? Typically, we have just tied our boat to the side by side and pulled it across land to deeper bodies of water where we needed to cross. It is not really heavy, so typically does not leave any rutting. The side by side would tend to leave more ruts than the boat ever would on land.

a. The water on the refuge is not very deep and does not have a lot of great places to launch a boat. They could bring a boat if they thought they really needed it but it would have to be cleaned thoroughly. They should be able to access all fence lines easier with an UTV.

2. Are there any pictures or description of typical fence(both types)? I understand that a site visit would take care of this information, but if it is possible to know the type of online posts, type and size of corner and H bracing and whether they are set in concrete or not, as well as water gap construction, that would be helpful.

a. Fence lines and H-braces are electric fence with t-post and wooden posts. On some of the corners there is twisted wire. To our knowledge all/majority post should be concrete free. Some of the wire has been on the ground for multiple years and will be buried by some dirt and vegetation.

3. What are the types of dangerous wildlife to watch out for? Here we have to work in the habitat of alligators and various types of poisonous snakes. The colder months typically eliminate any risks here. Is that also the case there?

a. The refuge does have venomous snakes. They are seen less often in colder months but it does not eliminate their presence.

4. Regarding travel times, it seems that it is about a 30 minute drive from the center of the refuge to the Refuge Office. Is that an accurate estimate, or is it substantially more or less?

a. It takes about 30-35 minutes to travel from the northern part of the refuge back south to the visitor center.
