Existing topsoil shall be stripped to a Foundation preparation. Areas disturbed by ditch plug construction shall be mowed/mulched to remove all existing vegetation. Existing topsoil shall be stripped to a depth of 6" and stockpiled adjacent to the work area, or as specified by the NRCS engineer or NRCS designated representative. Topsoil shall be reused and spread over disturbed areas. Excessive topsoil shall be disposed of onsite as specified during the pre-construction meeting. Foundation surfaces shall be graded to remove surface irregularities and shall be scarified parallel to the axis of the fill or otherwise acceptably scored and loosened to a minimum depth of 2 inches. Foundation side slopes shall be graded to 1:1 or shallower to accommodate adequate compaction. 2. Borrow material. Ditch plugs shall be constructed of suitable borrow material. To the extent practicable, borrow material shall be sourced from removal of infrastructure Borrow material. Ditch plugs shall be constructed of suitable borrow material. To the extent practicable, borrow material shall be sourced from removal of infrastructure as shown on these drawings, including removal of spoils berms within proximity of the ditch plug site. Borrow material may also be sourced from excavation of microtopographic ponds, as identified and flagged in the field by NRCS. Fill materials shall contain no frozen soil, sod, brush, roots or other deleterious material. 3. Compaction. Refer to CS-OR-0.23 EARTHFILL. Compaction. Refer to CS-OR-0.23 EARTHFILL. Moisture content. Moisture content of earthfill shall be sufficient to obtain adequate compaction and a suitable bond between layers of placed material. Placement. Earthfill material for the construction of ditch plugs shall be placed parallel to the embankment axis in approximately uniform horizontal layers of not more than 8 inches in thickness prior to compaction. Compaction. Compaction shall be accomplished by 4 passes of deep-tread rubber-tired construction equipment over the entire surface of the placed layer, or approved equivalent. Care shall be taken to adequately compact the first lift of material against the prepared foundation, to ensure an effective bond between materials. 4. Final grade. The top surface of ditch plugs shall accommodate 6 inches of settlement and shall be crowned slightly to ensure effective drainage. Wing dikes Final grade. The top surface of ditch plugs shall accommodate 6 inches of settlement and shall be crowned slightly to ensure effective drainage. Wing dikes approximately 6 inch tall x 5 feet long shall extend from either side of the upstream ditch plug face, graded to divert flows from flanking the earthen embankment. Final grading shall blend with adjacent ground. 5. Revegetation. All disturbed areas shall be revegetated according to CS-OR-231 VEGETATION OF CONSTRUCTION SITES. Revegetation. Areas disturbed by removal of the Antelope Creek Levee shall be mowed/mulched to remove all existing vegetation. 2. Borrow material. Removal of R1 North-South Road will Borrow material. Removal of R1 North-South Road will provide borrow material for ditch fill F1 & F2. Removal of Antelope Creek Levee will provide borrow material for ditch fill F3 & F4. Ditches shall be filled starting at the most downstream point and continued upstream. If the quantity of material removed from the North-South Road and Antelope Creek Levee is insufficient to completely fill the ditches F1-F4 the work will be terminated at a point determined by the NRCS engineer or NRCS designated representative. Borrow material used to fill ditches F5-F14 will be sourced from the adjacent side cast berm. Material shall be pushed back into the ditch and compacted per the standards in note 3 below. Ditches located within the footprint of a microtopographic pond shall only be filled to the bottom of the pond. 3. Compaction. Refer to CS-OR-0.23 EARTHFILL. Compaction. Refer to CS-OR-0.23 EARTHFILL. Moisture content. Moisture content of ditch fill shall be sufficient to obtain adequate compaction and a suitable bond between layers of placed material. Placement. Ditch fill may be pushed or placed in approximately uniform horizontal layers of not more than 12 inches in thickness prior to compaction. Compaction. Compaction of ditch fill shall be accomplished by using equipment which sufficiently compacts the fill material to the satisfaction of the NRCS engineer or NRCS designated representative. Compaction can be accomplished by a single pass of deep-tread rubber-tired construction equipment over the entire surface of the placed layer. Alternative equipment and methods can be used if adequate compaction can be demonstrated.
