Text version

1. Who will research, draft, and edit the intellectual content of the exhibit to be included on the graphic panels, flipbooks, etc.? Is that a task to be undertaken by the contractor? If this material will be provided by DOI, is it already complete or when is completion anticipated?

No intellectual content/exhibition writing will be undertaken or performed by the contractor. All research, draft, and edit work regarding the intellectual content of the exhibit (e.g. script, label text, flipbook text, map text, the choice of wall quotation material, etc.) will be performed by the Chief Curator of the Interior Museum. A thematic outline is complete and will be provided to the winning contractor. The final text is not complete at this time. It is expected that the contractor’s visual storytelling expertise will help determine the ultimate placement of information and, thus, inform the Chief Curator’s refinement of the exhibit script. The contractor will work collaboratively with the Chief Curator to develop the placement/layout of text. The contractor may inform the Chief Curator if the length of text is problematic to its placement/layout and the Chief Curator will take this under consideration as valuable advice in a collaborative effort; the decision to change the length of text is ultimately the Chief Curator’s to make.

The completion date of text will be informed by the timeline provided by the contractor.

2. Who will identify and obtain any necessary high-resolution imagery, including appropriate copyright licensing, for the graphics?

Museum staff will identify and obtain images and copyright licensing, as needed, and provide the contractor access to the images in an agreed upon digital format. The contractor is not responsible for identifying and obtaining high-resolution imagery, nor are they responsible for obtaining appropriate copyright licensing for the graphics. However, the contractor may utilize their resources and expertise to propose appropriate images for use in the exhibition. All proposed images by the contactor will be reviewed for approval by museum staff. The contractor will use their expertise to inform museum staff if an image selected for use will pose a problem (i.e. the image resolution is not high enough). The contractor will use their expertise to inform the size and scale of the images that are ultimately selected by museum staff. The contractor may recommend that an image not be used, but the decision is ultimately the Chief Curator’s to make.

3. Is there a defined budget for the design and/or implementation of the overall project?

The Government has developed internal estimates of project cost as required by statute however those estimates are for internal use only and will not be shared with industry. The Government intends to make an award to the proposal that provides the best value, price and other factors considered.

4. Who created the case layouts and artifact mounts for the work that was suspended during the pandemic?

The mounts were made by established professionals in the industry, and the layouts were created by a vendor whose primary work is not exhibition design. Further information will be provided to the winning offeror.

5. Is a percentage complete payment schedule acceptable?

Interested contractors are invited to propose payment terms. Payment terms that are typical for your industry will be considered.

6. What is the relative weight of Evaluation Factor 1 (Technical Capability) vs. Evaluation Factor 2 (Price)?

Technical Capability is weighted more heavily than Price.
