About this file

The document is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) seeking passenger vehicle ferry services for the Lansing Ferry crossing the Mississippi River, connecting the City of Lansing Marina in Allamakee County, Iowa to WIS 82 in Crawford County, Wisconsin. The RFI is open from August 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM CDT to September 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM CDT, with the primary goal of gathering detailed information from potential contractors about their recommended products and services for operating a passenger vehicle ferry service.

The RFI includes a comprehensive list of 29 specific questions for vendors, covering critical aspects such as ferry capacity, US Coast Guard certification, crew licensing, maintenance protocols, operational capabilities, and contingency plans. Vendors are encouraged to submit their responses online and can attach a detailed response document. This RFI is explicitly not a Request for Proposal (RFP), but rather a preliminary information-gathering step to help Iowa DOT understand potential service offerings for the Lansing Ferry crossing. The contact person for this RFI is Mallory Hunter, who can be reached at mallory.hunter@iowadot.us or +1 515-239-1347.

Iowa DOT is seeking information from contractors who can provide passenger vehicle ferry services at Lansing Ferry crossing the Missippi River located from the City of Lansing Marina in Allamakee County to WIS 82 in Craford County Wisconsin.

We highly recommend online submission of responses. This expedites the process and reduces errors for both buyer and supplier.

Vendors are asked to provide detailed information on the products and services they would recommend to the DOT for this RFI. Vendor's RFI Response can be uploaded as an attachment in the questions section.

This is not a request for proposal (RFP) where bidders respond with a specific solution to Iowa DOT specifications.

An RFP is a separate process with further defined requirements.
