About this file

The provided file is a Questions and Answers document for a federal contract opportunity soliciting a 1300nm Tunable Laser from the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Q&A reveals specific technical requirements for the laser, including an application for characterizing photonic integrated circuit components, particularly optical microresonators. The vendor seeks a laser with a tuning range of 1290-1350 nm, with preference for broader ranges like 1260-1360 nm or 1240-1380 nm, depending on cost considerations.

The document indicates that relative accuracy is more important than absolute accuracy for the intended use. The solicitation (Number: 1333ND25QNB680280) is specifically targeting a laser model that can meet these precise specifications for research-grade optical component analysis. The technical requirements suggest a specialized scientific instrument procurement, likely for advanced photonics research or measurement applications within the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Text version

1. What specific application do you intend to use the laser for?

The application is characterization of photonic integrated circuit components, including optical microresonators.

2. What tuning range are you aiming for? Available options include models spanning 1260–1360 nm and 1240–1380 nm.

We only require 1290-1350 nm be included. Both 1260-1360 nm and 1240-1380 nm would be acceptable, with the larger range preferable depending on cost.

3. How critical is accuracy for your intended use? There are several models available that accommodate different precision requirements.

Relative accuracy is more important than absolute accuracy. <+/-10 pm is a typical number that would be useful for our applications
