About this file

This file is a Questions and Answers document for Solicitation 1333ND25QNB680209, a procurement for an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) Pump Cart by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The document addresses three key technical clarifications from potential vendors: (1) NIST does not specify an exact turbo pumping rate but expects approximately 50 L/s, (2) the mobile system must have casters (preferably locking), and (3) vendors may use alternative inlet flange types if necessary to achieve the required pressure specifications of 10-8 hPa. The solicitation appears to be seeking a specialized laboratory equipment solution with specific mobility and performance requirements, allowing some flexibility in technical implementation to meet the core objectives.

Attachment 1 Questions and Answers

1333ND25QNB680209

1. What is the required L/S for the turbo pump line #1?

NIST Answer: NIST does not have a specific the turbo pumping rate (L/s), as long as all the other requirements are met. For the typical system of the type that can meet our requirements, we would expect the pumping rate to be approximately 50 L/s.

2. As stated in the minimum specification requirements: The system shall be on a cart for mobility around a typical lab setting. Is the system required to be on wheeled locking castors ?

NIST Answer: The mobile system must have casters, but there is no specific requirement that they be locking (although that would be preferred).

3. We would like to bid on this RFQ, however, we noticed a conflict between the required specs and the requested parts: The DN 40 ISO-KF o-ring flange type will prevent the setup from reaching 10-8 hPa. The required specs would only be attainable with a CF copper gasket-type flange, such as the CF-63's.

NIST Answer: The vendor may use an alternative standard inlet type if it is necessary to achieve the pressure specification.
