SPECIFICATIONS
HIG-SPEED IMAGING SYSTEM
The High Power Laser Applications Group requires a high-speed imaging system is needed for the research of high-power laser interacting with metals. This system will be used in two different but related capacities. The first is imaging the dynamics of the molten metal pool created during a spot laser weld. The second application will be observing laser-induced fluorescence of the laser-produced vapor plume. This will be a low light application with detection in the ultraviolet to visible.
The system capable of these tasks will require three components: a high-speed camera, an image intensifier, and a macro lens system. The working distance of the entire system must be at least 6-8 inches from the imaged object in both applications. The first application will have a field of view of roughly 1 mm x 2 mm, and the second will be about 10 mm x 5 mm. Frame rates of at least 50,000 frames per second with a resolution including at least 60,000 total pixels in a rectangular configuration with an aspect ratio no greater than 2:1 (e.g. 320 x 192 pixels, 384 x 256 pixels, and so on). The system must be able to be triggered externally with a BNC model 565 Delay Generator. The spectral sensitivity of the system should be optimized in the range of 200 – 600 nm.
Minimum specifications are as follows:
Photron FASTCAM Nova S6 (or equivalent) Specification 1.1 – 50,000 fps with a resolution requiring at least 60,000 total pixels arranged in a rectangular configuration of aspect ratio less than or equal to 2:1 Specification 1.2 – At least 8 GB internal storage Specification 1.3 – Externally triggerable Specification 1.4 – Mounting compatible with other items in this system
Item 2: Image Intensifier (Invisible Vision UVi1850-10-S20, or similar)
Specification 2.1 – 18 mm output diameter Specification 2.2 – Gating of at least 10 ns Specification 2.3 – Suitable for at least 50,000 frames per second Specification 2.4 – S20 photocathode (or similar) with sensitivity optimized in the UV to visible (< 600 nm), but with sensitivity Specification 2.5 – Externally controllable by a BNC 565 Delay Generator Specification 2.6 – Mounting compatible with other items in this system
Item 3: UV Macro Lens (Nikon 105 mm UV lens system, or similar)
Specification 3.1 Can transmit UV light from approximately 250 nm to visible light
Specification 3.2 Mounting is compatible with both the intensifier and camera above (items #1 and #2)
Item 4: Imaging Control Unit
Specification 4.1 System meets or exceeds the specifications of items #1 and #2 above.
Specification 4.2 System has the all necessary software installed and configured to work with items #1 and #2 Specification 4.3 System has all the necessary cables and components for operating items #1 and #2.
Shipping and Delivery Phased delivery is acceptable. Software on a USB / disk required.
Installation A site visit is recommended prior to delivering of the system.
Inspection and Acceptance Government acceptance is expected to take longer than 7 days.
