STATEMENT OF WORK

IN-SITU MINIATURE TENSILE TEST STAGE

NIST needs an in-situ miniature tensile testing stage for use inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM). This stage is needed to perform mechanical tests on small specimens while simultaneously capturing SEM images. The tensile stage needs to fit inside the SEM chamber we have, particularly inside the FEI Quanta 400 in Building 2, have a force range of at least 10 N – 350 N (from 0 - 5000 N if possible), and a displacement range of at least up to 1 mm, more if possible. The in-situ stage also needs to have the potential for future add-ons such as different grips or specimen heating and cooling.

In-situ miniature tensile testing stage compatible with scanning electron microscope

- force range of at least 10 N – 350 N, more if possible

- displacement range of at least 1 mm, more if possible.

- Outer dimensions that will fit inside our SEM chamber (our SEM chamber’s dimensions are:

28 cm diameter, 24 cm deep, 6 -7 cm stage to pole piece)

- set of grips

- load cell for force range of 1 N – 500 N

- vacuum feedthrough

- control software

1) No specimen heating/cooling capability is needed, although the option to add it in the future is preferable.

2) No EBSD compatibility is needed, although the option to add it in the future is preferable.

3) No specialized image capture software is needed, although the option to add it in the future is preferable.

4) Compatibility with additional future load cells is preferable
