Statement of Need
Container Towing System
Description of supplies or services
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) plans on operating two mobile maintenance centers throughout hurricane season to provide on-the-go support to mission aircraft. During hurricane season, NOAA’s heavy aircraft operate on a 24 hour deployment alert; postured to reposition on short notice due to constantly changing weather conditions. As a result, these maintenance centers require a towing system to facilitate safe and efficient movement to and from the shipping source as well as to reposition in the event of severe weather. Each mobile maintenance center is a custom fabricated standard shipping container tailored to the unique demands of NOAA operations. The towing system is a critical accessory required for the success of the mobile maintenance center concept.
