PRS # 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 Instructions for Random Sampling Selection
The COR shall complete the required sampling for PRS items 6, 7, 8, 12, and 13 currently during each month of each year. Random sampling is based on a Lot Size of the number of calendar days in a month. Typically the government shall exclude weekends and government holidays in the sampling unless a problem has been noted.
Lot Size for Number of Calendar Days (excluding weekends) is a sample size of 5 days [Lot Size of 16 to 25]. If weekends are included, the Lot Size increases to 8 days [Lot size of 16 to 25]. For the month, number weekdays 1 through the end of the month (example – September 2014 has 21 once the federal holiday is removed). These shall be the numbers used for the Random Generator. If weekends and federal holidays are utilized, the normal calendar days can be utilized.
The COR shall visit a random generator website such as www.randomizer.org to determine which calendar days they shall be doing the inspection for each month. This selection of days shall be selected no later than the first day of each month. The COR shall input the dates selected for each month and year based on the random generator. Additionally, the COR shall input the date they made the selection for that month and initial.
Sample: For example at Randomizer.org for September 2014:
How many sets of numbers do you want to generate: 1 [1 Month] How many numbers per set: 5 [Lot size is five] Number Range: 1 to 21 [21 calendar days excluding the federal holiday] Do you wish each number in a set to remain unique: yes [ we do not want to sample the same day] Do you wish to sort the numbers at are generated: yes: least to greatest Do you wish to view your random numbers: Place markers off
The days the system selected were 1, 3, 5, 6, and 17 which would correspond to September 2 (1); September 4 (3);
September 8 (5); September 9 (6); and September 24 (17).
