About this file
This document appears to be a summary of a site visit and Q&A session for the Major Brothers wetland hydro-restoration project in Fulton County, Kentucky, under the USDA-NRCS ACEP-WRE program. The key details are:
The project consists of restoring hydrology on the site by constructing one embankment to create shallow water areas, and two low water crossings to provide access. The USDA-NRCS staff present included the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), an Area Engineer, a Civil Engineer Technician, Easement specialists, and a Wetland Biologist from Ducks Unlimited. Questions were addressed regarding fill material, rip rap specifications, construction methods, seeding and mulching requirements, and other site-specific details. All construction specifications are standard for ACEP-WRE hydro-restoration projects. The borrow area can be adjusted as needed, and rubber or track equipment may be used for compaction. Staking, flagging, and control points will be provided by USDA-NRCS engineering staff during construction.

• Is fill material (for embankment, etc…) on site?
o Yes, the borrow area was pointed out from the design sheets.
• Clarification of rock size for Class II Rip Rap (what lb. rating is?)
o The quarry will know what Class II Rip Rap is, but the largest sieve should be 9 inch.
• Should any of the low water crossing be lower than the stream depth?
o No, do not go lower than the stream depth.
Field Onsite Questions:
• Can a forestry mulcher be used if the trees are too thick for a bushhog?
o Yes
• If a forestry mulcher is used can the mulch chips lay where they lay or removed?
o Mulch chips can be left where laid.
• Are all construction specs the same to other ACEP-WRE hydro-restoration projects
(Credille and Chumbley)?
o Yes, all USDA-NRCS specs are the same for each of the practices. Any differences will be listed under the Items.of.Work section at the end of each Specification.
• What is to be done with the fill material if there is any fill material leftover?
o Spread and smooth out across construction work impact area.
• Were the remaining areas of the site tree planted?
o Yes, the site was planted with a mix of trees that are native to Kentucky
Bottomland Hardwood Forest.
• Due to a duck blind in the area can the borrow area be moved and/or re-shaped to get quantities needed for fill?
o Yes, the borrow can be taken from other location within the work area and/or re-shaped as determined by COR.
• Would the site get staked and flagged for construction?
o Yes, USDA-NRCS engineer staff would be checking construction progress and will stake and flag the area.
• Are there control points established?
o Yes
• Can rubber and/or track equipment be used for compaction?
o Yes, compaction will need to meet earth-fill specifications.
• Is seeding and mulching required everywhere?
o Seeding and mulching practice will have to be done on the embankment, spillway, and around the Low Water Crossing.
