*Notes from Maret Wetland Federal Contract Showing 9/11/19

*Notes will be posted on FBO.gov website

Landowner requests/concerns communicated to Dan L. pre-meeting:

• Landowner would like to retain Milkweed and will post areas he would like to retain with flagging or flags before work begins.

• Landowner has perennial wildflowers and shrubs he has planted. He will flag these areas as well. Some of the planned shrub planting locations will need to be shifted.

• Landowner would like wildflower seeds added to the planting mix ( Swamp milkweed, New

York ironweed, and Helianthus giganteus (Tall/Giant Sunflower), were specifically mentioned by the landowner.

o Green Bulrush (Scirpus atrovirens) to be substituted with Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) at a rate of 0.4 lbs/ac- DL 9-17-19

• Dan L. will have to officially change the contract to add seed

Answers to contractors’ questions during meeting

• The bid is for 1 bid for a contract containing all three properties

• Site near Stroudsburg is a 2-year treatment for reed canarygrass

• Bids due 3 pm Sept. 18th

• Sites are under WRE/WRP perpetual easements

• Disking is to smooth out the tire ruts that were left to act as microtopography during construction. The goal is to remove the micro pools. The big humps can stay

• Disked areas will be reseeded to a sedge community mix

• Shrub plantings are planned for the site o If listed shrubs are unavailable shrub species can be substituted with prior NRCS approval

• Tree/shrub planting should be done when trees/shrubs have the best chance of survival (contractors’ professional opinion)

• Shrubs will be planted on a 12’x12’ spacing

• There are 2 access points. One off the driveway and then between the buildings. The other is off RTE 696 across from the landfill entrance.

• Work can be done as soon as notice to proceed is issued

• Each task can be invoiced individually

• Equipment restrictions o No dozers – we are working under a maintenance permit o Skidloader with tiller attachment? – Dan L. needs to respond

Use of this equipment is not allowed- DL 9-17-18 o Try to minimize disturbance

12FPC119Q0046 PA

o Auger planting of shrubs is acceptable

• Herbicide selection is responsibility of the contractor o Be cognizant that the area is a wetland o Brush management area is mainly multiflora rose, also bush honeysuckle, barberry, and autumn olive o Foliar or basal application is acceptable for Brush Management o Spring application is acceptable (can do the work within the 2-year period)

• There is a typo where Field 6 is listed as Field 5 on brush management area.

o Tree and Shrub establishment should be Fields 2, 4, 9 o Conservation Cover should be 2, 4 o Herbaceous Weed Treatment should be Fields 2, 4 o Brush Management should be Field 6

• Dan L. can send shapefiles to contractors

• Brush Management reports submitted on an excel spreadsheet with estimated percent kill

• Looking for total kill on disked area, minus any flagged areas.

Further Questions should be Directed to Dan Ludwig at dan.ludwig@usda.gov by Monday Sept. 16th.
