Statement of Work Purchase and installation of Entomology Museum Cabinets for the US National Pollinating Insect Collection USDA-ARS-PWA Pollinating Insect Research Unit, Logan, Utah

The US National Pollinating Insect Collection (NPIC) has over 2 million specimens of bees and other pollinators. These specimens have been collected for over 100 years and identified. These specimens are of high value, given that they can give information on agricultural lands and other environments and the status of important and essential pollinators for agricultural crops and plants in the natural ecosystems. These specimens can also provide valuable DNA for development of identification methods and for research, but only if the specimens are preserved under ideal conditions. The specimens cannot be replaced and, therefore, must be treated with extreme care. The collection is valued at over $2.5 million dollars and is self-insured by the USDA-ARS. Space for the collection is limited and the specimens must be stored under controlled conditions. Maximizing the existing space is essential.

The specimens are kept in special museum equipment designed for insect specimens that are composed of drawers, which are kept in cabinets that organize and protect the drawers. All the existing specimens are in California Academy Drawers and in two types of cabinets. The older cabinets were manufactured by BioQuip, which is no longer in business. The other cabinets are SpaceSaver/Viking Cabinets. To maximize the collection in the available space, we have purchased of a compactor system that can hold the SpaceSaver/Viking cabinets. We need to purchase additional SpaceSaver/Viking Model 522 Entomology cabinets or equivalent cabinets of another brand to accommodate for the growth of the collection and to protect the specimens.

These cabinets must match the compactor system requirements.

The requirements for the SpaceSaver/Viking Model 522 Entomology cabinets or equivalent cabinets of another brand and their delivery/installation include:
