Weed Spraying Services - BPA

Solicitation Questions and Answers

Questions and Answers During Solicitation Phase:

1. If we are not interested in ATV/UTV work, can I leave that blank, or how would you like me to report that?

A: You can make a note that you do not do ATV/UTV work.

2. Wilderness / Non-wilderness. We have two separate spray packs available, but run at different prices. Because one is CO2 powered, it takes much more work to operate. Other BPA’s have allowed me to put both systems in, but on a separate line. That way the individual offices can make the call on which one we use.

A: With a BPA you include your highest pricing. Then when we do the BPA Calls you can list both pieces of equipment and let the individual make the call on which piece they want you to use.

3. Are we allowed to use the water in the local areas or are you asking contractors to haul their own water from a commercial source?

A: Some herbicides are less effective with “ditch” water. We also cannot guarantee that water sources will be available in all the locations, so water may need to be hauled. However, water from creeks, streams and rivers may be used if available.

4. I am only interested in small jobs. Do I need to put in for this BPA?

A: This contract will be for all contracts for weed spraying on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests (Grand Valley Ranger District, Gunnison Ranger District, Paonia Ranger District, Montrose Ranger District and Norwood Ranger District). Even those $2,500 or less will be awarded through this contract.

5. How does the BPA work and what if my prices are too high?

A: With the BPA, you want to do worst case scenario. Worst location, etc. The measurements are by the Acre, Day, or Mile. We realize the pricing will be high. Once we get funding we will ask all contractors that are awarded a contract to put in pricing for a specific project – BPA Call.

The project specific BPA Calls will have details that help you level your pricing. You can always provide a price lower than your BPA pricing, but you cannot provide a price that is higher than your BPA pricing. So with item 001 – you should make the assumption you are driving to the farthest point on the District and using an ATV/UTV to spray 1 acre of weeds

6. Explain items 005, 105, 205, 305, 405. Is this price per mile per square mile sprayed? Per roadside mile sprayed?

A: 005, 105, 205, 305, 405 is your price per mile to drive to each location. So if you are pulling a trailer with horses or an ATV or driving a pickup, or riding a horse into a remote area, what is your cost per road/trail mile to get to the location to treat weeds? This is essentially your cost to mobilize to the location where you will be treating weeds.
