About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Noxious Weed Survey federal contract opportunity (Solicitation Number: 1282B125Q0037) with the Rio Grande National Forest. The Q&A provides critical technical guidance for potential vendors, specifically addressing data collection methods, mapping requirements, and reporting protocols. Key details include the mandatory use of Survey123 mobile application for recording invasive species data, with vendors receiving a username and password to access a specific invasive species inventory form. The document specifies that all noxious weeds must be collected as polygons, with separate entries required for infestations more than 500 feet apart or with different weed species, and confirms that a data dictionary will be provided in Appendix C of the statement of work.

NOXIOUS WEED SURVEY
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1282B125Q0037
1. I have been using a Trimble GEO XH data collector with TerraSync 5.7 software. Is this an acceptable method for mapping and recording invasive weed data for this contract? If so, what is required in post processing? Are differentially corrected data files downloaded into Pathfinder office required, or are the files taken directly from the GPS unit sufficient?
Vendors will need to use Survey123 as outlined in the statement of work. This is a free application compatible with iphone and android devices (phone or tablet). Vendor would be supplied with a username and password that grants access to the Rio Grande NF invasive species inventory form which includes all required fields. Vendors are also granted access via web page to review data and perform minor edits during the QC process.
2. What are the guidelines on size for collecting points, polygons and lines?
All noxious weed found during surveys will be collected as polygons via the Survey123 form.
Polygons can be captured either by manually dropping vertices as personnel walk around the perimeter of an infestation (better for smaller infestations) or via streaming (better for larger infestations).
3. Are you going to require a separate point, polygon or line for each weed species collected?
Yes - Infestations separated by more than 500 feet need to be mapped separately. Additionally, when there are multiple noxious weed species co-occurring or overlapping in the same area, one polygon and associated form for each species will need to be created.
4. Will you be providing a data dictionary set up for this project?
Yes. appendix C of the statement of work includes a brief protocol description and data dictionary for the Survey123 form.
