About this file

This document provides an amendment to a solicitation for roadside mastication services on the Payette National Forest in Region 4 Idaho. The amendment consolidates questions and answers to clarify requirements, with no changes to terms or conditions. Mastication must be performed from roadways and extend 15 feet into adjacent areas, allowing access by truck following completion. Equipment type and size were selected to accommodate a mastication head from road surfaces. A four-wheeler will not be needed for access as roads will be drivable by pickup truck after mastication. The period of performance is August 28, 2023 through October 30, 2024.

SUBJECT: Questions and Answers, Solicitation 1282B123R0068 Roadside Mastication, Payette NF R4 Idaho

Contractor Question:

1. Have a 20k excavator with a mastication head and recently looked at one in Washington that was more suitable and economical for a tractor with a brusher. Wanting to make sure this is a job for our machine. Also wanting to know if we should bring a four-wheeler to access any of the roads or if the roads are open enough for a truck.

Forest Service Response: These roads were picked with a masticator in mind especially considering the requirement that mastication extend 15’ off the roadway while the equipment remains on the road surface. Equipment must remain on roadway per the Statement of Work.

Not all roads are currently accessible by truck, but as the work is performed the roads will become accessible by truck. Contractor would have no reason to access the route before the masticator reaches that point. After mastication the roads should be drivable by pickup trucks.
