Task 2 – Skidding/Yarding:

(a) All Units: All non-sawtimber trees are to be yarded (whole tree skidding) to a designated landing.

(b) All Units: Skidding within 100 feet of live streams shall not be permitted. Skid trails shall be located high enough out of draws and swales to permit diversion of runoff water to forest ground cover. Prior to periods of accelerated water runoff, Contractor shall inspect and open culverts, drainage structures, construct cross ditches for road runoff and take other reasonable measures to prevent erosion.

Task 3 – Slash Treatment:

(a) All Units: All trees shall be whole tree skidded (trees are intact when skidded). All trees are to be processed (limbs and tops removed) at the landing.

(b) All Units: Incidental biomass size trees that cannot be feasibly skidded or fall out of the grapple during the skidding operation, may be treated by lopping and scattering not to exceed a depth of 18 inches.

(c) See Contract Section H.23 for the Contractor’s slash responsibility.

Task 4 – Road Maintenance:

UNIT TYPE OF FACILITY CLOSURE METHOD

All

Temporary Roads

(a) Temporary roads will be closed for the entire length. Closure will be accomplished using a Forest Service approved method that includes one or a combination of the following methods: slash, including large diameter cull logs; Kelly hump; tank trap; and/or rocks.

(b) Scarify to a minimum depth of 10 inches.

(c) On road sections where grades exceed 10%; create waterbreaks/waterbars every 50 feet on average.

(d) Temporary culverts will be completely removed from the National Forest and the streambanks at the crossing will be reshaped to a natural profile.

Fill used to cover the culvert will be scattered outside of the riparian area.

(e) Seed as directed in K-G.6.0.1#.

(f) Where available, up to 60% of the disturbed surface of the facility will be covered by scattering slash so it will not exceed 12 inches above the ground surface. Slash preferred will be tops and foliage.

(g) The temporary road that crosses private property shall be fully recontoured after use in addition to scarify and seed as stated above.

Landings

(a) Scarification to a minimum depth of 10 inches.

(b) Seed as directed in K-G.6.0.1#.

(c) Where available, up to 60% of the disturbed surface of the facility will be covered by scattering slash so it will not exceed 12 inches above the ground surface. Slash preferred will be tops and foliage.

All Main Skid Roads/Trail Approaches to Landings 100 feet into the Units

Contract Administration team will determine which obliteration method will be used on a site-by-site basis. These methods may include, but are not limited to: install drainage structures; place slash or other material (rocks, logs, stumps); out slope roadbed; and/or decompact by scarification to a depth of 10 inches.
