ADDENDUM 1
REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION BATES CANYON TOILET UPGRADES
1. Will there need to be any type of permits required for this project, or is this all federal land?
Forest Service Response: No permits are anticipated for this project, although coordination/fees may be required with Santa Barbara County Air Quality Control Board, as part of the demolition.
2. Please confirm that there is NO engineered/stamped grading plan necessary for this project.
Forest Service Response:
Signed and sealed engineered grading plan not required. A simple grading plan showing:
spot elevations, finished floor elevation and slopes is sufficient to meet the requirement.
3. Please confirm that there will not need to be a survey performed or a survey plan.
Forest Service Response:
Survey plan not required. Grading plan elevations and existing road tie-in elevations, can be set in the field by the contractor.
4. Please confirm that the existing toilets can be removed prior to the completion of the new toilet.
Forest Service Response: Yes, the toilets can be removed prior to installing the new toilet.
5. Can the new toilet be installed in the same location as the existing toilets? This will minimize impact on the vegetation and most likely benefit the ADA accessibility.
Forest Service Response:
Yes, the new toilet can be installed at the same location as the existing toilet, provided the existing vaults are removed and disposed of off Forest, in accordance with the project specifications.
6. Please confirm the exact screen wall type and toilet configuration. We recommend thru screen right hand.
Agree with recommended configuration – thru screen right hand.
7. Will we need to have soils testing prior starting, at sub grade for tank bottom, and backfill around tank?
Forest Service Response:
Soil testing from a third party soils labs is not necessarily required. The Forest Service will consider contractor field testing as an alternative. Please advise on proposed methodology to ensure excavation, backfill and compaction are completed per the specifications.
8. Will camping on site for workers be acceptable? And would the adjacent knoll with rock wall be able to be used for camping?
The District has confirmed that camping is acceptable during the project execution.
9. Will the roads be tuned up prior to contract starting?
Road maintenance is not currently planned for the roads accessing the site.
10. Are there any hazardous materials on the existing restrooms? Lead paint, Asbestos?
Lead and Asbestos testing tentatively scheduled for the week of May 9th. We will share the results as soon as they are available. Based on observations at the site, and for bidding purposes, assume:
• Presence of lead based paint (based on age), and
• No presence of asbestos containing materials
11. Would the USFS have the toilets pumped prior to contract starting?
No. Please include toilet pumping as part of the demolition scope.
12. Please specify any specifications for the flatwork to be performed. Example: Rebar, or mesh, concrete PSI. road base?
Forest Service Response:
Reference Specification Section “03300 CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE” from project specifications.
Specifications include:
4” thick concrete on 3” of sand.
Concrete strength = 3,000 psi (28 day strength)/ Reinforcement = 6X6 – 10/10 wire mesh (#3 rebar at 18” EW as an alternate)
13. Would Decomposed Granite with a bonding agent and a steel border be acceptable for a walkway and border? This would help keep project cost down.
No – concrete is required.
14. Will insulation need to be installed?
No.
15. Please confirm that any ADA requirements end at the existing roadway and where the new walkway meet.
Forest Service Response:
Correct, the ADA requirements are limited to the project improvements (sidewalk and toilet unit), and do not extend to the existing roads that are already in place.
16. Will there be any water source we can use on site or close to the site?
Unfortunately, due to limited water availability at Forest Service sites in the project vicinity, water will not be provided by the Forest Service.
17. Current Missoula made toilet lead times are estimated at August-September delivery.
Please confirm that this will be acceptable as current anticipated POP is starting in July.
Timeframe is acceptable. We will make the necessary adjustments to the POP and/or Notice to Proceed based on the product lead time.
18. Please confirm that the standard specs provided by Missoula Concrete Construction shall be used for the project installation.
Missoula Concrete specs are acceptable for the project.
19. Please confirm that the ASPEN single vault toilet is the correct make/model for bidding purposes.
Missoula Concrete ASPEN model is acceptable.
20. Can the walkway be altered to achieve the correct slope % desired? Or is the walkway only to be configured as shown on “Bates CG Plan”
Forest Service Response:
Yes, changes to the layout are acceptable, especially to achieve ADA. Please capture any layout changes as part of the “Grading Plan” submittal.
