About this file

The provided document appears to be design specifications for ADOT-style cattle guards, which are required under a federal contract opportunity for the supply of cattle guards to the Coconino and Prescott National Forests.

The key details are: the cattle guard package includes concrete foundations, steel grills, and end brace sets, but excludes bike safety clamps; the cattle guard must be installed flat and not slope with the road crown; the heaviest piece weighs 10,000 lbs; and delivery is required via flatbed. The related federal contract opportunity, Solicitation Number 127EAU24Q0134, is for the supply of 2 styles of cattle guards to 2 separate locations, to be awarded as a Firm Fixed-Price contract by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

RN103 - RAM-NEK JOINT SEALANT

Last Rev Date: 03/02/2011

Physical Properties

Approvals and Certifications

Meets or exceeds all requirements of ASTM C990 Standard Specification for joints, concrete pipe, manholes and precast box sections, using Preformed Flexible Joint Sealants.

Meets requirements of Federal Specifications SS-S210-A, "Sealing Compound Preformed Plastic For Pipe Joints", Type 1, Rope Form.

Usage

Flexible Plastic Gaskets for sealing the following Precast products, regardless of size or shape:

· Storm Sewer Pipe

· Box Culverts

· Manhole Risers

· Septic Tanks

· Utility & Burial Vaults

· Wet Wells

Application

Vertical Application:

1. Apply one brush coat of Ram-Nek Primer to concrete surfaces to be sealed. Primer is recommended but not required unless conditions are wet.

2. Remove protective wrapper on one side only of preformed Ram-Nek coil and press firmly to the dry, clean joint surface. Leave the outside wrapper in place to protect the gasket and keep it from stretching.

3. Remove protective wrapper from Ram-Nek gasket and set next section. Each unit is forced "home" by its own weight, compressing Ram-Nek to tightly pack and immediately seal the joint. "Squeeze out" is visible proof of a watertight joint.

4. After last section is set and fully "seated", the installation is complete. Backfilling and compaction can start immediately.

Horizontal Application:

1. Trench conditions shall be such that pipe jointing can be accomplished without getting mud, silt, gravel or other foreign materials into the joint. Generally, the trench should be dewatered and have a firm bottom free of muck.

2. Remove protective wrapper on one side only of preformed Ram-Nek coil and press firmly to the dry, clean joint surface. Before laying the pipe in the trench, attach the gaskets end-to-end to the leading edge of the tongue or groove of each pipe joint, forming a continuous gasket around the circumference. Remove the protective wrapper before joining pipe sections.

3. After the gasket is applied, the pipe should be handled carefully to avoid displacing or soiling of gasket. Any gasket so disturbed should be replaced.

4. The pipe should be properly aligned before joints are forced home. For tongue and groove pipe, the pipe should be partially

Vault Installation Guide Vault Installation:

L,FTING GEAR Use only proper ifting gear to handle or place concrete sections in excavafon.

When ·nstol ·ng vault sections w·th four ·ft point locot:ons, use four-way coble r;gging w·th cables being of equal ength. Do not lift using less than four cob es.

BASE w·th the excavation prepared, the base section con be ·nsto led. Check to ensure that the base is set correctly before proceeding. This may be done us·ng a trons·t or similar method.

C eon the keyway and pace the gasket material at the outer edge.

TOP - Lower the top onto the base so that the access hole(s) ore ·n the correct locofon. The top and base keywoys should mote even y a I around forming a tight sea.

RISERS - Gasket material for risers ·s placed at the outer edge of the keywoy.

GRADE R'NGS Gasket materio or non shr;nk grout may be used to seal jo·nts.

Gasket Material:

Keywoys must be free of dirt, rocks, and water. Rocks and d·rt prevent the vault sections from seofng and sea ing properly. Remove al protective paper from gasket moter;ol. Sp ice gasket moterio w:th a "s·de by side" joint, away from corners. Corner spl.cing wil not seal properly.

CORRECT lnsto I gasket moter'ol at the outer edge of the keyway. Gasket shou d be conrnuous around corners.

NCORRECT Do not overlap the gasket moterio at splice.

NCORRECT - Do not spl·ce gasket moter'al at a corner.

Gasket should be contnuous a round corners

Backfilling:

Do not backfill unt: the vault ·s completely assembled. Acceptable bockfll materio s ore sand, pea grove, crushed rock, approved not;ve soil, or select we I graded material that ·s free of arge rocks, and not saturated with water.

Add backfi material in even l'fts al around the vault structure. Compact each lift to reduce a·r voids and consequent settlement of the vau t. Do not backfil one side at a time. Th·s may compromise the structural integr'ty of the vault.

General:

Use on y the knockout areas provided for condu;t and pipe penetrorons. Cuts mode ·n any other area cou d weaken the structural integr;ty of the vault.

Vault Installation Guide Notice To Customer:

The ·nformation w·th·n th·s qu·de covers the ma·n aspects of the vault ·nstol, ation and is not intended as a "How To" manual. See ASTM specification C 891 "lnsta lotion of Underground Precast Concrete Util"ty Structures" for additional detai s.

Clear access is requ·red so that the del:very truck may reach the site under ·t's own power.

To place the vault secfons, the truck is required to pull up alongs·de of, or back up to the excavaron on a su:table level area.

Traffic control shall be the responsibil·ty of the contractor or the customer.

We reserve the r:ght to refuse delivery if our fie1d representative determ·nes that the site preparations do not meet the requ·rements out.ined in this guide.

Excavation Size and Clearance:

SIZE - The excavafon must a ow for the overall dimensions of a comp1eteIy assembled vault. When compurng the depth of the excavation, consider the additional heights of bedding material grade rings, and frame and cover. Bedding material must cover the entire bottom of the excavation to a depth of 2" to 3" deeper than required, br"ng the frame and cover to grade w·th grout or gasket material.

ADEQUATE PLANN NG - Note that the excavation pans allow for assemb ed he·ght plus bedding material and proper cIearance on al s·des.

Shoring Requirements:

f the excavaron site soi responsibi ity to meet a

·s unstable or saturated, sho(ng is required. It ·s the customers app1icable safety codes and regu ations for shoring the excavation.

Bedding Preparation:

BED0 NG MATER.AL Sand, crushed rock, pea grave, or approved native soi are good bedd·ng materials. The bedding moteriai must compete y cover the bottom of the excavafon. It should also be screened level and compacted.

STANDING WATER - Use pumps as necessary to prevent water from co1lecrng in the excavaron.

Extra s·ze excavation may be requ·red to allow pumps to be operated during a I phases of setfng.
