Questions and Answers
Solicitation 127EAT23Q0026
Fire Trailers
Question 1: The manufacturer would like to clarify whether your customer needs outriggers and/or a bucket well for Lowboy Trailers.
Answer 1: Yes outriggers 8, they are in the specification. There is not a bucket well in the specifications.
Question 2:
For the suspension load rating. Requested is 70,000 lbs. Is this a typo? Air ride suspensions have a capacity of 25,000 or 30,000 , total is 50,000 or 60,000.
Answer 2: That is not a typo, we run many with 35 ton, 70,000 lbs trailers with air ride suspension.
Question3: Will a standard (wide) width neck is acceptable for the agency?
Answer 3: It needs to be a narrow neck; A lot of our Forest roads are no longer maintained and the are very narrow with tight corners. The narrow neck allows for a tighter turning radius.
Question 4: For the tires, will you accept a 16-ply Westlake brand 285/70R19.5?
Answer 4: The Westlake brand tire is acceptable, Question 5: Will standard decking of Douglas Fir with option of hardwood Apitong outside – 2- 3” boards each side work?
Answer 5: Yes, Douglas fir decking with the optional Apitong outside 2-3” is preferable.
Question 6: The average tare weight for this model with a 16’ deck and 8’gooseneck is 14,200 lbs. the Units with an 8’ deck and 9’ gooseneck will be slightly higher. Is that okay?
Answer 6: Yes, the approximate weight is fine.
Question 7: Regarding Safety Chains, can you please provide the quantity, rating and style required?
Answer 7: Safety chains are for the air suspension, attached to the axles in case someone accidentally puts the are valve in dump mode when they do not want it.
Question 8: Standard placement for the optional D-rings on this Cal-Fire model trailer is 5 each side of the deck, spaced evely plus 2 on back end. Placing 8 on each side of the deck, as stated in the specifications is difficult to have them spaced evenly due to the design of the frame. There will also be 2-pull- up D rings on each side on backend forward of each axle. Recessed deck D-rings are available as an option and are placed 1 each corner of the deck straight or at a 45 degree angle. Please confirm if these placements are acceptable.
Answer 8: Yes, this is acceptable.
Question 9: Will a hydraulic gooseneck trailer be acceptable?
Answer 9: No, it has to be mechanical. The gooseneck must be detachable as we need the capability to load off the front as well that is why we have detachable goosenecks.
