B. Section Anchorage:

1. Anchorage requirements for the sections shall be as shown on the Contract Documents and as directed by the Engineer.

C. Prepare site by removing vegetative cover, debris, and unacceptable soils (silty/organics) from area where geocells will be installed. Excavate to required depth.

D. Re-compact soils & place geocell directly on compacted soil.

3.3 INSTALLATION OF THE CELLULAR CONFINEMENT SYSTEM

A. Install geocells in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions at locations indicated on the drawings.

B. Anchor geocell sections as necessary to resist sliding due to gravitational forces and sheet flow.

C. Ensure top edges of adjoining cell walls are flush with each other and in proper alignment.

D. Deliver infill material to geocells from top of slope to bottom in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

E. Overfill expanded geocell sections by 2 inches to allow for settling and compaction and with hand tamper or other approved means to compact infill material to max practical without damaging geocell.

F. Add a 2” top layer of native creek gravel.

Project Background

Riverton East is a high use area that is a popular put in and take out for both power boat users and non-motorized users, as well as a designated put in and take out for four outfitters on the Eleven Point River. As a result of the May 2017 flood, and as the water has receded, the boat ramp and retaining wall areas continue to decline and additional damage has occurred and become more apparent.

Figure 1: Aerial photo of Riverton East prior to 2017 Flood

Base Bid Item 2

Objective: To replace the portion of the submerged and damaged section of the boat ramp with new subbase, base and precast concrete planks.

Existing Conditions:

• The damaged portion of the ramp is a bolted plank configuration, with 24 separate sections that are approximately 15” wide, 5” deep, and 12 foot long. The ramp originally had an overall slope of 10%. Most planks are intact, but undermined. Several are damaged beyond repair, and several more have uncertain stability.

• Planks are connected together individually with ½” galvanized bolt and ½” ogee washer. There is a 3” separation between planks.

• The base material (various sizes of road and gravel material) was removed during the spring 2017 flood event in the submerged section of the ramp. The ramp has now collapsed and undermined due to a lack of based material for support.

Bid Item 3

Objective: Remove a section of the concrete wall area, and create a new canoe launch area in place.

Existing Conditions:

• As depicted in Figure 5, the canoe loading area has an approximate three foot wall, with uneven concrete surface. The concrete has sharp edges and is a safety hazard to floaters.

• The concrete is undercut approximately two feet.

• If the overhung and undermined concrete is not supported with a solid base material, it will continue to scour underneath and the retaining wall will be at risk of failure.

• There is currently no safe place for canoers and kayakers to launch their watercraft.

Figure 5: New Canoe Launch Area

Figure 6: Existing wall to be removed for new canoe launch

Oregon County, Missouri

Bid Item 4

Existing Conditions:

• As depicted in Figure 5, the canoe loading area has an approximate 2’-3’ foot tall wall, with uneven concrete surface protruding into the water.

• The concrete has been undermined and scoured out approximately two feet under the concrete.

• IF the overhung and undermined concrete is not supported with a solid base material, it will continue to scour underneath and the retaining wall will be at risk of failure.

Figure 7: Undermined concrete area to have rock placed below.

Scope of Work

• The long, straight stretch of concrete retaining wall will remain.

• Class 3 riprap to be placed and compacted under overhung concrete so that the undermined concrete will be stabilized.

• The dimensions of the area to be filled is approximately 2’x2’x120’. Contractor is responsible for making their own measurements.

• No equipment will be allowed in the water, so equipment must be selected and properly sized to allow for compacting rock from the surface.

• The entire length of the repair work is approximately 80 feet of riprap embankment.

• Minimum slope of 1.5:1.

• Key rock in below the normal water elevation, so that the thickened toe embedment depth is 3 ft deep below stream bottom.

• When installing the riprap it has to transition smoothly back to natural banks. Refer to https://flh.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/specs/ section 251 RIPRAP for detailed specifications.
