About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Solicitation Number 12639525Q0130, issued by the Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Marketing and Regulatory Programs Business Services. The solicitation is for procuring female mice (Mus Musculus) weighing 19-25 grams, intended for wildlife management purposes. The Q&A reveals that the organization does not conduct research but follows Animal Welfare Act statutes and APHIS standards for animal welfare.

The Q&A provides insights into the wildlife service's approach to animal procurement and care, indicating they obtain import permits from the Guam Department of Agriculture and utilize US Army Vet Corps personnel for health checks when needed. They are not AAALAC accredited and do not have a dedicated attending veterinarian for the mice. The solicitation appears to be related to operational wildlife management, specifically involving mice as part of their operational procedures, likely for snake trap lure chambers.

A. See above. We follow all Animal Welfare Act statutes and all APHIS standards for the welfare of the mouse that is in a lure chamber of the snake trap.

Q. Do you have the name, phone number, and email of the veterinarian?

A. We get an import permit from the territorial vet at the Guam Dept of Ag. (Mariana Turner, mariana.turner@doag.guam.gov) We do not have an attending vet for mice. When we need health checks or vet service (like our snake detector dogs) we use the US Army Vet Corps personnel on Guam. We do not have an exact name, number, and email.
