Requirement for 6 gauge 5’ x 16’ graduated livestock/wire panels.
The USDA Feral Swine Program requires a specific livestock/wire panel for trapping feral swine. The panels will be deployed in multiple states to support hog management. The panels must be constructed of galvanized metal and will have an expected life period of no less than 10 years. The panels will be what is commonly referred to in the industry as “graduated” , which means the panels have 2”x 6” openings at the bottom and gradually increasing to 6” x 6“openings at the top. This requirement is to keep small piglets from escaping at the bottom, while reducing the weight of the panel therefore making it possible for one feral swine trapper to lift the panel by themselves. The panels cannot be constructed of anything less (smaller) than 6 gauge metal, galvanized and welded at all cross members. This requirement is to guarantee that the feral swine that are captured will not escape. The panels will be 5 feet tall to prevent feral swine from climbing or jump out once captured. The panels will be 16 feet in total length, since the corral traps are designed using a 16 foot in length panel, and the trailers the Government uses to transport panels are only capable of handling a maximum 16 foot long panel.
