About this file
This document is a Statement of Objectives and specifications for livestock feed supplements to be procured by the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) for research purposes at Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory in Miles City, Montana.
The procurement requires six custom-formulated supplements divided into two categories. The first category consists of four 20% crude protein supplements for mature gestating beef cows, fed at 2 lb/head/day, in range cake form (3/4 to 7/8 inch diameter cubes) in 50 lb bags: (1) Control with wheat middlings base, (2) Control plus propionate at 50 g/d, (3) Control plus rumen protected fat at 57 g/d from two specified sources, and (4) Control plus both propionate and rumen protected fat. The second category comprises two 36% crude protein supplements for weanling heifers, fed at 2 lb/head/day, delivered in loose meal form (not pelletized) in 50 lb bags: (5) Methionine plus propionate using Smartamine M at 17 g/d and calcium/sodium propionate at 50 g/d, and (6) Methionine plus propionate plus lysine using Smartamine ML at 85 g/d with propionate at 50 g/d. All supplements must be isonitrogenous and isocaloric, with guaranteed minimum compositions including crude protein, TDN, phosphorus, potassium, and specified vitamins and minerals. The delivery requirement is 13 tons of supplements 1-2 and 4 tons of supplements 3-4 in range cake form, and 6 tons of supplement 5 and 2 tons of supplement 6 in meal form, all to be delivered within 30 days of award. Example formulations are provided for reference. The contractor must submit formulas and calculated nutrient composition at award for quality verification.
