About this file

This is a Request for Quote (RFQ) issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for a tree clearing project. The solicitation covers three primary service line items: Mechanical Removal (14 acres), Mechanical cut/treat (34 acres), and Grinding/Shredding (252 acres), to be completed between October 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The project requires mechanical tree removal using excavators or dozers, with specific instructions to burn, bury, and smooth sites, and to treat cut trees with a 50/50 solution of water and Garlon 3A herbicide. Interested bidders must submit quotes by August 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM CDT, with the solicitation number 25CRDWBZRIPP-0005. A cultural resources survey will be required for the mechanical removal area, and some work may need to be completed after crop harvesting.

The RFQ includes standard payment terms allowing the State of Iowa 60 days to pay invoices, with potential discounts for earlier payment. Bidders are required to review and acknowledge the DNR Standard Contract Conditions and General Conditions available on the DNR website. The solicitation does not specify a predetermined budget or funding source, and there are no prerequisites for bidder participation. Potential bidders must provide contact information, years in business, and agree to the specification terms and conditions. The document indicates flexibility in acre adjustments depending on flood impacts, particularly for the Grinding/Shredding component.

See attached maps for clearing details. If site visits are requested, please contact Philip Payton @ philip.payton@dnr.iowa.gov. Some quick things to note regarding the project:

*A cultural resources survey will have to be done on the 14 acre mechanical removal, if for some reason we cannot use large equipment, other means of tree removal will be required on any acres not approved by survey.

*Some of the work will have to be completed after crops have been harvested.

*Mechanical removal acres: trees will need to be burned, buried, and site smoothed

*Mechanical cut/treat areas, trees can also be pulled, cut trees will need to be treated with a 50/50 solution of water and Garlon 3A or equivalent

*Some acre adjustment may be made depending on flood impacts, mostly to Grinding/Shredding acres
