About this file

This document contains questions and answers from a pre-bid meeting for solicitation number 12445523B0003 to replace culverts on the Hoosier National Forest. The project requires an arch style culvert or equivalent, with bottomless box culverts not considered equivalent. Clearing limits will be based on construction plans, with the Forest Service working with contractors to establish any uncertain areas. Onsite materials in the project area may be used if they meet specifications for streambed simulation rock. Local quarries typically do not carry this material but limestone may be used as an alternative if approved by the Contracting Officer.

Text version

Project: 6AOP Solicitation No: 12445523B0003 The following questions were brought up during the pre-bid meeting held on 8/23/2023.

1. Project calls for a Conspan (or equivalent) arch style culvert. A contractor asked if a Box style (bottomless) is considered equivalent. This project has been designed for the “arch style culvert” and this type of structure will be required. The “equivalent” refers to supplier and/or brand name equivalent, and not the type of structure on this project.

1. The project does not show clearing limits will the FS stake them or do they use the constructions plans to determine the approximate location. The clearing limits will be based off the construction plans. If areas are uncertain the FS will work with the contractor in establishing them.

1. Contractor asked about the Streambed Simulation Rock, Bed Class 10. It is not something local suppliers typically carry, and they want to know what options they have for the material (example can they use Limestone which is carried by most local quarries). It was also mentioned that existing streambed material that meets the requirements and is located in the project area could be used (Note 7, sheet C-05 page 7). The FS considers the use of onsite materials that are in the project area to be used. It is the contractor's responsibility to supply the material to meet the project specifications. If no local suppliers have material that will match the project, the contractor may use a limestone product as an alternative, if approved by the Contracting Officer.
