Site Visit Questions 11/19/2020

1. Do all the roads have be entirely bladed even if they are hard and stable? Yes, most of the areas that are hard are worn down and depressed where the tire paths are. All roads are to be re-shaped to a crown, inslope, or outslope profile & properly compacted in accordance with specifications.

2. Are concrete culverts required? Bid the contract as it is. Concrete pipes are preferred in shallow fills as there is no future guarantee that the 1’ of fill required for metal pipes can be maintained.

3. Are grouted rock headwalls required on all culverts? Grouted rock headwalls are required for all culverts installed on this contract.

4. Do culverts have to be installed to the bottom of existing fills? No, new installed culverts should have a cross-slope of 5% +/-1% and will outlet wherever that slope dictates.

5. Is the road required to be heavy brushed? No, but the contractor is free to remove any brush that is impeding the travel of their trucks and equipment.

6. Is the contractor liable for damage to trees? Small trees less than 4”dbh with no market value may be removed if they impede construction. Larger trees shall be coordinated with the COR for removal.

7. Are contractors responsible for removing demolished culverts from Forest Service Lands? Yes, the contract clearly states demolished culverts are to be removed from National Forest lands. These culverts may be taken to a C&D landfill, recycling center, or to the contractor’s place of business. The wasted culverts shall be “legally” disposed of.

8. What is to be done with earthen waste? The COR will designate waste sites along each road that earthen waste may be hauled to. This waste shall be evenly spread and seeding & mulch applied within 14 days of the waste area’s final usage. Side-casting of earthen waste is also permitted in areas not adjacent to live streams. Side-casting of earthen waste is to be coordinated with the COR. In no instance shall waste be left on cut slopes above roadway ditches.
