12444323Q0027 Questions and Answers 03-20-2023

1. Is there a budget available for this project?

a. We do not release the Government Estimate.

2. Can the period of performance be extended?

a. The period of performance cannot extend beyond the original end date due to the nature of the work.

3. For this project, are you looking for hand or mechanical felling? If it is mechanical, can a horizontal drum mulcher/masticator be used?

a. For this contract we are looking for hand felling with chainsaws/brush cutters. Drum mulchers and masticators were not analyzed for this project and would thus not be permitted due to soil and/or water concerns.

4. Is there any lopping required on any of the units?

a. There are no lopping requirements on this year’s contract. However, slash must be removed within 15 feet of the following:

Clear R-O-W & ditch line
private land
fence maintenance trails
historic railroad grades
well openings
fences
old main skid trails
oil/gas lease roads
stream courses
pipelines and power lines
maintenance trails
seeps
wildlife openings
recreational trails
active stone pits

5. The unit table shows a diameter limit of mostly 6" DBH and some 8" DBH to cut on the various units, however, under "General Work Description" it states "All diameter sizes of striped maple, pin cherry and buckthorn shrub will be cut in this contract." Can you clarify the DBH to be cut?

a. It does come off as confusing, there is a typo in the general work description. When referencing this in conjunction with the species to be cut (section 210), striped maple, pin cherry and buckthorn should be cut at all diameters encountered. All beech and birch greater than 12” tall and up to the diameter limit in the table will be cut.
