- The work includes clearing brush and deadfall to prepare the fence lines.
- The solicitations clarify that both driven and drill-set posts can be used based on soil conditions.
- Compact track loaders can be used, but the contractor is advised to visit the site to determine the appropriate equipment needed.
- The government will provide the materials listed under specific pay items, which the contractor must pick up with 48 hours' notice.
- The two solicitations have an estimated contract value between $100,000 and $250,000.

Questions and Answers As of 9/18/2024
In both contracts/solicitations, it states posts are both set and driven in different places within documents.
Can both driving and drill/set/pack be used based on soil conditions? (ie. To rocky to drive a wood post, so use drill and set)? Answer: Yes
Is the area of the solicitations largely accessible with compact track loader or is more specific machinery likely required? Answer: Compact track loader should work, but it is highly recommended to visit the site to determine what is needed. Some of the area has a large amount of deadfall that needs to be cleared.
Are there any requirements on the clearing equipment? Example, low ground pressure, rubber track only, etc.) Answer: Terrain varies, see answer above.
In material list provided for fence construction, 21 foot pressure treated split rails and Jack legs are noted.
No mention of these materials is noted in the specifications. Are these items used anywhere in construction? Can you specify if this product is used or if it was just included? Answer: Jackleg will not be constructed, the materials were inadvertently included in the list. An amendment has been issued to delete that from the solicitation.
No mention of smooth 9 wire, brace rail pipe, and other potential materials are included in material lists.
Will these smaller items be provided by the government or by contractor? Answer: All materials will be provided by the Forest Service unless specifically specified.
Will the corner and brace posts used on the Eagle rock boundary fence (contractor provides material portions) be provided by contractors or government? They are not included in solicitation as provided by contractor. But it seems ambiguous if the government is providing them. Answer: This is a straight fence where corner braces are not required. One end of the fence will tie into an existing fence with a line brace, the other end will need a line brace to end at a scree slope.
CLARIFICATION NOTE:
On both solicitations, under C.5 General Specifications, Materials (see excerpt below) information in red is referencing the Pay Items in the Schedule of Items. As an example, the Pay Items 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, etc.
