Project

SULA MENS BUNKHOUSE HVAC RETROFIT

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

This project replaces the existing hydronic heating system in the Sula Men’s Bunkhouse with an energy efficient variable refrigerant flow heating system.

Contractor Requirements

2.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

This project is located in the Sula Men’s Bunkhouse at the Sula Work Center. This 1,134 SF bunkhouse is currently heated with a hydronic heating system existing of a boiler and approximately 145 LF of baseboard convectors, 45 LF of overhead convectors, and one unit heater. This existing heating system, including all piping, convectors, boiler, pumps, electrical, and supports, will be removed and disposed of off National Forest System lands. This does not include any piping or water heaters required for the domestic hot water heating system.

A new heat pump heating system will be installed. This system is comprised of one exterior 48k BTU unit combined with a single indoor air handler and venting to condition the dormitory area of the building. Another exterior 48k BTU unit combined with two indoor units, one in the dinning/kitchen area and one in the lounge area.

Each exterior unit shall be protected with a Thermally Protected Metal Oxide Varistor (TPMOV) surge protection device. The surge protection device shall meet the requirements below. Exterior units shall sit on minimum 6” stands.

System 1 – Dormitory Area: Installation of a 48K BTU Outdoor unit paired with a wall mount 48k BTU air handler. This unit to serve the dormitory area of the bunkhouse with a air handler and ductwork system. Unit to be controlled with a digital wall mount thermostat. Unit functions for heating and air conditioning. Successful bidder shall submit ductwork and cold air return design and calculations to CO for approval. This shall include ductwork type and sizing, damper grill type, cold air return grill and filter).

System 2 - Dinning/Kitchen and Lounge: Installation of a 48K BTU Outdoor unit paired with two indoor wall mount units. First indoor system will be a 24K BTU wall mounted unit serving the dining room and kitchen area. Second indoor unit will be a 18K BTU wall unit serving the lounge area. Units to be controlled by digital wall mount thermostats.
