About this file

This is a Question and Answer document from January 29, 2025, addressing equipment usage for fence line work under Solicitation 1240LT25B0003 (South Schells Fence Restoration project).

The document clarifies that while the Statement of Work initially prohibited heavy equipment for fence line clearing, the Contracting Officer has modified this requirement. Due to existing two-track paths along fence lines and limited archaeological sites in the project area, contractors are now permitted to use heavy equipment along fence lines for installation and material transportation. However, contractors are specifically prohibited from using equipment blades to clear new paths.

Subject: Question and answer concerning the use of heavy equipment Solicitaiton 1240LT25B0003

To: Contract File

Question: In the statement of work it states, “Vegetation clearing in the Project Area may be done using chainsaws or handsaws. Heavy Equipment May Not be used to clear the fence lines.”

Answer: On the South Schells project many of the fences have 2 tracks and/or paths along the fence where permitees have used equipment to maintain the fences over the years. There are limited archeological sites in the entire project area. Because of that we will allow the use of equipment along the fence line for the installation of the fence and transportation of materials. Contractors are not allowed to drop a blade on the ground to clear paths.
