Project and Summary Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District, Steamboat Fire Bunkhouse Roof Replacement.

This project consists of re-roofing the Steamboat Fire Bunkhouse located at Site II on the Hahns Peak Bears Ears Ranger District in Steamboat Springs, CO. This work includes the complete demolition of existing roof coverings and underlayment and full replacement with new underlayment and a new 26 gauge (minimum) Structural Standing Seam Roof System (SSSRS). The area of the roof that will be replaced is estimated at 4065 SF and consists of fiberglass reinforced asphalt shingles and underlayment which shall be removed down to the existing sheathing prior to installing new metal roof panels. These panels shall have a color determined by Forest Service leadership.

This work shall also include removing and disposing of all waste materials associated with this work, and cleanup of the site. Any damage to the building or site because of this work shall be the Contractor’s responsibility. All work shall adhere to industry standards, local building code requirements, and manufacturer installation recommendations.

General Information

1.0 Background

Within the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest & Thunder Basin National Grassland (MBRTB), on the Site II

Administrative Site of the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District, the Steamboat Fire Bunkhouse (aka ‘Bunkhouse’ in this report) is a 2,296 square foot, single-story, lightwood-framed, stem-wall foundation structure constructed in 2006. The

Bunkhouse is physically located at 1267 13th St. in Steamboat Springs, Routt County, CO 80487 (40.48944538°, -

106.84651360°). This structure is used year-round as crew quarters for seasonal and full-time USDA Forest Service employees.

The roof of the Bunkhouse is constructed of fiberglass reinforced asphalt shingles. These shingles are most likely underlain with #30 roofing felt, and with self-adhering sheet underlayment at eaves and valleys. The roof decking per the plans is 4x6 laminated T&G. The material area is approximately 4065 square feet (40.7 SQ) on a 6/12 pitch. The lack of adequate weather protection necessitates an immediate replacement which meets current Forest Service requirements.

Leaks have occurred at various penetrations and valleys in the roof.

2.0 Location, Site Conditions, and Weather

This project is located within the city limits of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. From the west edge of downtown, turn south onto 13th Street and travel for approximately one-half mile. Appendix IV – Color Palette

This Appendix contains several series of electronically-scanned color chips. Within each series a number of colors have been marked as appropriate for trim, roofs or for use generally (i.e., all other portions of a structure). These colors tend to harmonize with the natural forest setting, but their use is not mandatory; rather, site-specific decisions should be bases on site-specific analyses, and colors should be chosen to blend with the particular location within which they will be used.

District Rangers who wish to use the colors of this electronic palette should note that because of differences in computer monitors and application software the electronic representations will likely not display accurately. For this reason, the electronic representations should be taken only as rough approximations and hard-copy color sheets and/or chips have been distributed to District offices for reference purposes.

Use this handbook of color chips from manufacturers Benjamin Moore and Pratt & Lambert does not constitute an endorsement by the Forest of those manufacturers.

DURATION: This supplement is effective until superseded or removed.
