About this file
This document contains questions and answers from a pre-bid meeting for the Buttermilk and Island Park Boat Ramp Replacements project on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The meeting addressed site conditions such as snow levels covering the boat ramps and parking area. Questions covered topics like groove spacing on floats, placement of wall buttresses, allowable cold joints, construction schedule around potential freezing, conducting work on both ramps simultaneously, thickness of the current slab, required testing, anticipated water levels, location of the laydown area, and allowance of camping onsite. Traffic control plans will require closing the entire area after Labor Day to protect existing signs. The solicitation seeks replacement of the Buttermilk and Island Park Boat Ramps for the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, as managed by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

Buttermilk and Island Park Boat Ramp Replacements Pre-bid Meeting 05/02/2022 Met at Island Park Boat Ramp @ 10 am. Conditions: Boat ramp still covered in snow. Did not continue to Buttermilk Boat ramp because of snow levels. (Ramps were not visible, but parking area at Island Park Boat ramp was visible-sites are similar).
Questions:
Q: The groove spacing shown on the drawings would require a custom float to achieve. Would a commercially available float with a different groove angle be allowed?
A: Groove Spacing is negotiable Q: Wall Buttresses only on the bottom of the ramps, none on the sides?
A: Yes, only one the bottom.
Q: How many cold joints will you allow/require?
A: Industry Standard Q: When does it freeze in Island Park? And how do you handle that?
A: It is recommended that you start the day after Labor Day. Concrete will have to be covered for freezing per ASSTM standard. Some years snow comes earlier than others. If it gets snowed out early, we will suspend work and continue in the Spring.
Q: Can we do both ramps simultaneously?
A: Yes Q: How thick is the current slab?
A: Thickness is unknown. Likely 8”.
Q: What testing will be required?
A: Compaction test 1/day, slump test 1/day Q: What will the water level be?
A: Historically, it is as shown on the plans. If water is significantly high, we can do a possible push-in section with a contract modification.
Q: Where will the laydown area be?
A: The parking lot will be the lay-down area.
Q: Will camping be allowed onsite?
A: Camping will be allowed on-site.
Q: What kind of traffic control?
A: Close entire area. (Wait until after Labor Day to start.) Protect existing signs.
