Q&A
1. Is there any compensaon for climbing a tree with litle to no viable crop?
A: No, contractors are not required to climb a tree with less than 2 bushels on average. The Government does not guarantee any amount per tree.
2. If there is no mobilizaon fee, is there a minimum guaranteed harvest?
A: No,
3. Have you considered a sliding scale for mast crop vs lean year?
A: No, but this is something that may be considered for future opportunies.
4. When will the 2-week harvest in the 5-6 week window be announced?
A: Ancipate awarding by the end of July, then plan for harvest the last 2 weeks in August give or take a week depending on the year.
5. I understand that your agents will be focusing harvest on specific trees; can you elaborate on the logiscs of this?
For example, are trees marked with ribbons, does someone come to our camp each morning to show us what to climb, are we beholden to their schedule and designated area?
A: Yes, the Government usually shows trees, flags them or puts the Contractor in an area where Contractors can get into a tree quickly. The Government will assist in ground support helping haul bags, cleaning etc. This is a courtesy not a requirement. The Contractors are required to clean, bag, tag, etc. Somemes the Government will negoate on trees because the climber may not find the tree safe, or there is a tree next to the tree the Government selected that can be more advantageous for harvesng. However, the Government will not allow a climber to pick a tree that has more cones than the one the Government selected if the tree does not meet phenotypic (e.g., forked top, poor crown form) standards. Also, there are strict standards on the tree spacing and previously picked trees to meet genec standards.
6. Could you give a brief summary of any specific contract items that have changed this iteraon?
A: The biggest change is that there is a two week window within the dates listed for collecon of ripe cones.
Mobilizaon was removed from the schedule of items with the expectaon that quoters would spread this cost throughout the collecon line items.
There were some reducons of the required informaon on bio-based products.
The provisions regarding Employment of Eligible workers were re-evaluated and removed from this solicitaon.
