Project Title Crane Services for Bridge Repair Work (1091817)

General Information

1.0 Background and Purpose

The Rio Grande National Forest will be repairing the abutments on the bridge on National Forest Service Road (NFSR) 513.1A which is the road to Continental Reservoir located in southwest Colorado. The majority of the bridge repair work will be accomplished using Forest Service personnel and rental equipment however a crane and operator are needed to remove the existing bridge deck prior to working on the abutment repairs. The crane and operator will also be needed when the work on the abutments is complete to replace the bridge deck.

Option Item: The Forest is also planning to remove the existing concrete deck from Embargo Creek Bridge located on NFSR 650. We would then immediately need the crane to place a prefabricated steel deck on the bridge.

Contractor Requirements

3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

This project includes the supply of a crane and operator both capable to lift and later replace bridge deck from existing bridge at designated location as per Schedule of items at a remote bridge site. There will be two separate dates the crane will be needed. See below for description and photos of bridge and description of the deck. The first date is August 1, 2023 (or within one week later) and the second date will be approximately August 21, 2023 (or within one week later). The Forest Service personnel will prepare the deck for removal by the crane by disconnecting it from the abutments. Contractor will provide all items needing to lift and adequately support the deck including straps, hooks, cables, etc. as well as chase truck, helper, rigging, and any other associated equipment.

Objective 1: Lift the Continental Bridge deck off the current abutments and place in the area designated outside of the planned construction area on August 1, 2023 (or within one week later)

Objective 2: Lift and replace the Continental Bridge deck on the repaired abutments to satisfaction of the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) on August 21, 2023 (or within one week later)

Optional Objective 3: Remove deck from Embargo Creek Bridge and place on Forest Service equipment for disposal.

NFSR 650 is particularly narrow near this bridge. Forest Service will work to build up a dirt pad for the crane work.

Optional Objective 4: Pick up prefabricated steel deck from Forest Service transport and place on existing bridge Embargo Creek Bridge concrete abutments.

Several photos of the existing bridges are in Attachments 1 and 2. Several location maps and aerial photos are also attached. Contractor shall verify measurements, calculations, and loads before work begins. Contractor shall supply crane and operator that can meet or exceed calculated requirement loads (see chart below).
