Questions and Answers- 1240LP24Q0062 Pine Ridge Ranger District Noxious Weed Treatment

Is there are specific chemicals you are wanting used? I saw 24D and MSM 60 for hounds tongue but nothing specific for the thistle.

Milestone is the industry standard right now, but it doesn’t have as good of an affect on houndstoungue as it does on thistles and other weeds.

It says it a spot treatment application but then goes on to list specifications for a boom sprayer and calibration? In my experience in timbered areas it’s always a spot spray application using a 25 gallon 4 wheeler mount sprayer for accessibility.

Spot treatment is a general description of spraying with a UTV/ATV. As apposed to an aerial application with a helicopter or a fixed-winged aircraft. Spot treatments can be applied with a boom or a spray gun.

I don’t have a lot of experience with the gps software and was wondering if awarded the contract if you have gps to use for the contract period. Or have any recommendations for a gps that meets the requirements?

We do have a gps unit available and would recommend a Trimble unit (we use a Trimble Juno with TerraSync software). Contractors don’t have to use a Trimble unit, but it will require data entry into a geodatabase after the data is collected to meet the requirements of the contract. GPS units are starting to phase out, with weed sprayers starting to use the FieldMap app on their phones. Our GIS shop has the ability to get contractors set up with FieldMaps and ArcGIS Online.

In logged and disturbed areas, mullein is usually a noxious weed that takes over areas. I don’t see mullein on the list of weeds to spray.

Currently Mullein isn’t listed as a noxious weed by the state of Nebraska, Dawes, or Sioux County. So it’s not a requirement of our contract. If the contractor wants to spray it because they are there, or if they are boom spraying and happen to hit the Mullein that ok. It will speed up the succession process.
