About this file
This is an appendix that provides technical guidance on scalping and scalping with microsites for a 30 x 30 inch scalp example. The exhibit illustrates the differences between two scalping approaches through side views, top views, and detailed diagrams. For scalping without a microsite, the scalp dimensions are specified as 30 inches by 30 or 31 inches on one side and 30 inches on the other side, with an above ground fraction. For scalping with a microsite, the object used (such as a log, stump, or rock) counts toward the scalp size up to a maximum of half the scalp. In the example provided, the tree is positioned 16 inches from the log microsite in all directions except where the log is used as a microsite. All material must be cleared from the site within 15 inches from the tree, except for the area covered by the rock used as a microsite. The document includes labeled diagrams showing tree placement, microsite positioning, and measurement specifications to standardize scalping procedures.
