STATEMENT OF WORK FOR CHROMOTOGRAPHY INSTRUMENT ROBOTIC SYSTEM
October 31, 2017 Background:
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), a public health regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Agricultural (USDA), protects consumers by ensuring that meat, poultry, and egg products are safe, wholesome, and accurately labeled. The FSIS Western Laboratory is located at 800 Buchanan Street, Albany CA, 94710. The FSIS, Western Laboratory, is a regulatory laboratory, which analyzes meat, poultry and egg products to ensure they are free of adulteration.
Objectives:
The FSIS Western Laboratory performs regulatory testing of meat, poultry, and egg products for the presence of antimicrobial drugs and antibiotics, residues and pesticides. A new pesticides method that will be quicker, use less solvent and chemicals, and shorten time between purification and sample analysis has been developed by Dr. Steve Lehotay of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS).
Purpose:
The Field Service Laboratories are required to analyze meat, poultry and egg products for the presence of antimicrobial drugs and antibiotics, residues and pesticides. This requires the laboratory to utilize equipment verified for each method; the Gerstel robotic MultiPurpose Sampler liquid handling system is key to the operation of a new, quicker pesticides method developed for FSIS.
Requirements:
The USDA FSIS needs two (2) GERSTEL MPS Robotic Pro for Liquid Injection Systems 120 cm (#GER 100015-000-02) and additional support components/software:
• The GERSTEL Robotic Workstation is configured for full compatibility with Instrument Top Sample Prep software and hardware from ITSP Solutions, Inc and Agilent Technologies.
• The GERSTEL solution is designed to perform micro-solid phase extraction (micro-SPE) using consumable cartridges that can be purchased pre-made.
• Using the GERSTEL Robotic Workstation will allow sample filtration capabilities at 0.2 micron suitable for UltraHigh Performance Liquid Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-MS)
• The GERSTEL Robotic Workstation controls are capable of positive and negative pressure control during loading of sample extracts, cartridge washing or rinsing, and sample/analyte recovery.
• The GERSTEL Robotic Workstation is configured to be capable of working in the 10 – 1000 μL volume range.
• The GERSTEL Robotic Workstation includes modular component capability.
• The GERSTEL Robotic Workstation is capable of preparing mixed standard solution.
