About this file

This is a Specification Document for the acquisition and integration of Plasmion SICRIT MS Interface Systems and Jet Desorber equipment for the USDA ARS Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center.

The Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center seeks to expand real-time chemical detection capabilities for metabolomic, food authenticity, and trace compound analysis by acquiring specialized hardware compatible with existing Thermo Fisher LC-MS systems. The vendor must supply SICRIT MS Interfaces, control units, heated sampling lines, Jet Desorber kits, and installation/training services. Required components include a Jet Desorber Assembly, Mounting Holder for Jet Desorber, and Sampling Plate, all of which must be fully compatible with the SICRIT Ion Source and SICRIT Control Unit SC-30. The equipment must support direct sample desorption for LC-MS and GC-MS style ambient ionization workflows and enable analysis of surface materials such as vegetables, fruits, and other heterogeneous solids without sample preparation. Functional performance requirements include producing [M+H]+ ions detectable within high-resolution MS workflows, supporting accurate mass identification and isotope-pattern-based confirmation, enabling spatially localized sampling on TLC plates or specific regions, and operating seamlessly with the SC-30 high-voltage control unit and other SICRIT modules. Installation must follow standard SICRIT procedures with virtual training offered by the manufacturer. All components must integrate successfully with existing Thermo Fisher LC-MS systems and meet manufacturer performance specifications. Delivery is expected within 4–6 weeks from order placement, with a 1-year manufacturer warranty from the delivery date. The place of performance is the USDA ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

Specification Document

Acquisition and Integration of Plasmion SICRIT MS Interface Systems and Jet Desorber

1. Background

The Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center conducts advanced metabolomic, food authenticity, and trace compound analysis using LC‑MS platforms. To expand real‑time chemical detection capabilities—including ambient ionization and direct surface sampling—the laboratory requires specialized hardware compatible with Thermo Fisher LC‑MS systems.

2. Scope of Work

The vendor shall supply the equipment and services including SICRIT MS Interfaces, control units, heated sampling lines, Jet Desorber kit, and installation/training.

Salient Characteristics

a. System Compatibility and Intended Use

• Must be fully compatible with the SICRIT® Ion Source and SICRIT® Control Unit SC-30 for operation.

• Must support direct sample desorption for LC–MS and GC–MS style ambient ionization workflows.

• Must enable analysis of surface materials,e.g.vegetables, fruits, and other heterogeneous solids, as shown in the product note demonstrations (surface desorption, TLC-plate analysis, unknown identification).

b. Required Jet Desorber Components

The module must include (or be compatible with) the following parts exactly as listed in the quotation:

• Jet Desorber Assembly (1 pc) — primary thermal/gas desorption unit.

• Mounting Holder for Jet Desorber (1 pc).

• Sampling Plate (1 pc).

These components must allow secure mechanical integration with the SICRIT® Ion Source.

c. Functional Performance Requirements

• Must enable direct sample desorption with sufficient thermal and/or gas-jet energy to release analytes from a solid or surface without sample prep.

• Must produce analyte ions detectable as [M+H]+ ions within high-resolution MS workflows, consistent with the demonstrated examples

• Must support accurate mass identification and isotope-pattern-based confirmation of analytes

• Must allow spatially localized sampling (e.g., single spot on a TLC plate or colored ink region).

• Must operate with the SC-30 high-voltage control unit, ensuring appropriate power delivery to the ion source and optional modules.

d. Integration Requirements

• Must be operable in conjunction with other SICRIT® modules (e.g., Heated Sampling Line) without compromising system performance.

• Must be installable using standard SICRIT® installation procedures; virtual installation/training is offered by the manufacturer (SE-0004).

e. Manufacturer and Quality Requirements

• Must be delivered with 1-year manufacturer warranty from date of delivery.

• Must be shipped with all required mounting and installation accessories as specified

3. Period of Performance

Delivery: 4–6 weeks from order placement. Warranty: 1 year from delivery.

4. Place of Performance

USDA ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

5. Acceptance Criteria

All components must integrate successfully with existing Thermo Fisher LC‑MS systems and meet manufacturer performance specifications.
