About this file

This document is a specifications document for procuring five -80°C ultra-low temperature freezers for the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Unit. The technical requirements specify freezers with the capability to maintain temperatures between 50 to -80°C, hold at least 400 standard freezer boxes, operate on 115V 60Hz power, measure no larger than 39 inches wide x 90 inches tall x 36 inches deep, feature a touchscreen interface, and have a capacity greater than 23 cubic feet. The research unit's mission involves conducting agricultural and environmental research, including developing improved germplasm, breeding methods, management practices, and pest management strategies for crops such as warm-season grasses, corn, peanut, pearl millet, and sorghum. The freezers will be used for stable sample preservation and serve as backup storage during power outages, with the price quote required to include shipping to the location.

Specifications

Project: 80 C Freezer

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Purpose is to procure a total of five -80 C ultra-low temperature freezers. These freezers will preserve sensitive samples at ultralow temperatures of - 80° C.

2.0 Background: Five ultra-low temperature freezers are needed at the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Unit. The mission of the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Unit is to conduct research to solve agricultural and environmental problems of regional and national interest. To fulfill this mission, the Unit will: (1) collect, evaluate, develop, preserve and distribute germplasm with improved biological and agricultural characteristics; (2) develop new and improved breeding methods, genetic populations, breeding lines and cultivars to enhance agricultural production and efficiency; (3) develop new and improved management practices that increase yields, minimize production and utilization losses, and enhance environmental quality; and (4) develop pest management strategies that are economical, sustainable and environmentally sound. Research is conducted on warm-season grasses for forage, turf, and bioenergy; corn; peanut; pearl millet and sorghum. The Unit will conduct basic, developmental and applied research to establish principles and practices that are transferred to industry.

3.0 The -80 C freezers will allow for stable preservation of samples at - 80 C and has a capacity of 400 standard freezer boxes. These freezers will be used in routine storage of samples and serve as backup - 80 C storage in the event of power outages.
